CELEBRITY SCALES: Michael Jackson, the Wounded Messenger: Star-Studded Legal Commentary for the Celebrity Obsessed

By Matt Semino, ESQ. • on July 18, 2009

With the mask finally removed, her tearful goodbye humanized him in the eyes of millions of adoring fans and even skeptical detractors across the globe.  Paris Jackson was the poignant conclusion to her father Michael’s celebrated memorial service.  At the same time, her few words served as a painful reminder of the conflicted legacy that, as some proclaim, the greatest entertainer of all time leaves behind in the wake of his sudden, tragic and mysterious death.  In Michael Jackson’s passing, this international icon casts as many if not more unanswered questions about the out of the ordinary life he led behind the curtain of his private stage.

Michael Jackson at the White House in 1984

Michael Jackson at the White House in 1984

Intense speculation over the star’s actual cause of death has ranged from an accidental overdose to explosive allegations from some family members of foul play and even murder.  In the later stages of his life, Jackson was caught in a downward spiral of prescription drug abuse fostered through a tangled web of star-struck enablers and unscrupulous members of the medical establishment.  As in his life, Michael Jackson was engulfed by complex legal and ethical dilemmas even at the precise moment of his death.  Questions concerning the custody of Jackson’s three children, whether those children are connected to him biologically, control over and division of his complex estate, burial procedures and a final resting place for the star’s remains, use of Los Angeles public funding for a celebrity laden memorial service at the Staples Center and countless more controversial issues moved in swiftly like an ominous and heavy fog in the days and weeks following June 25th.

Upon his death, the Pandora’s box that is Michael Jackson’s secretive but highly scrutinized life burst open once again and the media as well as the public’s insatiable appetite for all of the juicy details immediately became palpable.  The daily headlines read like vivid medical records.  ‘Michael Jackson’s Autopsy Photo,’ ‘Michael Jackson’s Hair on Fire,’ ‘Michael Jackson’s Leg Wounds and Needle Marks,’ and ‘Michael Jackson was Sterile’ are just a few.  Only the most imaginative fiction writer could create a story with such high drama and sordid twists and turns.  Even with all of its tabloid entertainment value, it is a monumental disservice to Michael Jackson’s memory that a thoughtful analysis of his significant cultural contributions, particularly in the realm of human rights and social justice, are being obscured in the process of examining his death and now his corpse.

Through his prolific body of work, advocacy initiatives and multi-million dollar charity efforts, Michael Jackson raised international awareness and support for some of the most complex and timeless issues confronting the human condition.  AIDS, cancer, famine, homelessness, gang violence, racism, totalitarianism, environmental degradation, child abuse, violations of animal rights, restrictions on freedom of speech and other infringements upon basic civil liberties are just some of the difficult subjects Jackson tackled by leveraging the power of his celebrity.  Michael Jackson’s intuitive understanding of the problems besetting the human ecological system was uncanny and uncharacteristic for any entertainer close to his magnitude.

Many have been so dazzled by Jackson’s masterful showmanship and the consistent controversy surrounding his life and death that it would be easy not to recognize the overarching social and political themes embodied in his music, videos and public interviews.  The intense emotional pull, messages and raw feelings that reverberate through the lyrics and sometimes disturbing video imagery of songs such as “They Don’t Care About Us,” “Heal the World,” “Earth Song,” and “Man in the Mirror” are gut-wrenching.  A deeper analysis of Michael Jackson’s work reveals an individual with a burning concern for improving the lives of the disadvantaged and persecuted around the world.  The passion and verve with which Jackson digs his hands into the soil and grasps the trees in his video for “Earth Song,” an operatic piece where he addresses environment and animal welfare,  is a reflection of a leader of humanity who cares deeply about the issues he is challenging.

Global events in the weeks surrounding Jackson’s death alone directly mirror the complex problems for which he attempted to raise international awareness.  In Iran and before the world’s eyes, civilian demonstrations were squashed and innocent victims like the young Neda Agha-Soltan brutally murdered by instruments of a totalitarian state.  In Washington, D.C., a white supremacist motivated by pure hate attempted a killing spree at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, murdering an African American security guard in his rampage.  In North Korea, U.S. journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee were unjustly sentenced to twelve years of hard labor to merely serve as international bargaining chips for an evil dictator.  Michael Jackson spoke out loudly against these forms of racism and repression and attempted to ignite our passion to prevent the continuance of such abuse, neglect and discrimination.  How are we now missing this message when it is even more crucial for it to be absorbed into the public mind?  Not only do Michael Jackson’s cries of awakening continue to be ignored but his reputation continues to be smeared.

With the current fixation on the gruesome details surrounding Jackson’s physical demise, we have lost focus on the social relevance of Michael Jackson in our cultural timeline.  Jackson’s symbol has the power to force what might be a difficult and uncomfortable period of public self-reflection.  What progress has been made on the global humanitarian and civil rights issues that Jackson brought to light for the masses?  What realistically still needs to be accomplished in each of these realms to actually make future progress?  These are the crucial questions that need to be contemplated in the context of Michael Jackson’s death.

Many may ask why this controversial figure, a man who has been the subject of intense criticism and public backlash, should be given such gravity in framing public discourse over the day’s most important topics.  Sometimes it takes one person, not just a political or spiritual leader, who stands out symbolically from the rest of society, to make that society reflect on the principles that it follows and the values it embraces.  Jackson, throughout his life and in his death, has been ridiculed and revered, vilified and vaunted.  In many respects, his story represents the highest possible highs and the lowest possible lows that life can present to a human being.  Michael Jackson’s tremendous talent, success, wealth and public adoration were at odds with his extreme loneliness, fear, addiction and destruction of reputation by public opinion.  In the end though, Michael Jackson was much more than an entertainer.  His contributions to the entertainment field are no doubt profound.  However, it is his broad cultural impact that truly transcends economic, social, political, racial, religious and generational barriers.  Jackson rose from being simply a magical performer into becoming a humanitarian of historic import.  He was a modern day messenger, a visionary storyteller who raised the level of consciousness for citizens across national boundaries.  This level of contribution is what the social contract demands of those who are blessed with natural gifts, power and wealth.  Shouldn’t we then embrace and support people who are destined for this life mission instead of deriding them?  As history progresses and Jackson’s symbol and work are analyzed in conjunction with the unfolding of human events, the important cultural relevance of his persona will be uncovered.  Like a piece of classic Greek literature that embodies timeless themes of human striving and suffering, Michael Jackson’s canon and celebrity will come to hold a similar place in the modern day cultural pantheon.  Why then was it necessary to shoot the messenger?

Martin Bashir’s highly controversial 2003 TV documentary, ‘Living with Michael Jackson’ is just one of the many examples of the ways in which Jackson was unfairly portrayed in the media.  The documentary was a PR nightmare for the star.  Bashir’s video interviews and commentary were cleverly edited as to purposely paint Jackson as a megalomaniac child molester.  The film focused, in a highly negative manner, on the abuse Jackson suffered as a child at the hands of his father, the rumors behind his drastic physical transformation, his intense friendships with young boys, the nature of his past romantic relationships and questions concerning the genetic lineage of his children, among other sensitive topics.  Bashir conveniently cut out footage that presented a countervailing impression of Jackson.  Bashir’s documentary and Michael Jackson’s subsequent rebuttal, in the form of a TV special hosted by Maury Povich, provide a candid, never before seen glimpse into what made this man tick.  In many respects, Michael Jackson was a lonely soul who found the greatest comfort isolated behind the gates of his Neverland ranch and in the company of animals, children, carnival rides and opulent possessions.  In the last years of his life, Jackson became reclusive to the point that he was unable to function even within celebrity society due to the immensity of his fame and the parasitic attention drawn by even the briefest public appearance.  Examining these interviews, it becomes clear that Michael Jackson is one of the most misunderstood figures in modern day popular culture.

The incessant media backlash against Michael Jackson throughout his career and now in his death is driven by the fact that Jackson, as a symbolic figure, forces us to look in the mirror and face the difficult and sometimes intractable problems of our society and in ourselves that we may not want to acknowledge.  How dare he?  Jackson brilliantly shines light on civilization’s accomplishments and failures in their most extreme forms.  To be repulsed by the drastic transformation of his face was to simultaneously recognize the excessiveness of a beauty obsessed culture that allows money to change even the most fundamental components of our DNA.  When looking and commenting on his mask, weren’t we also secretly acknowledging both the literal and figurative masks that we sometimes hide behind?  Ironically, Michael Jackson’s physical changes led him to be branded as an “oddity” or “freak” by a media culture that promotes physical perfection through any means necessary.  As Jackson proclaimed during his interviews with Bashir, “Plastic surgery was not invented for Michael Jackson!”

The child molestation charges brought against Jackson first in 1993 and again in 2005, for which he was skewered and roasted by the media and public, were baseless extortion attempts fueled by the petty greed and jealousy of his accusers.  Despite settling the 1993 case and being acquitted of the 2005 charges, Michael Jackson’s commercial appeal and public image were severely damaged by the allegations.  The child molestation charges against Jackson represented a modern day witch hunt in its most base form.  Unfortunately for Jackson, the hunt was not localized to Salem but played out globally through the aid of modern media technology.  The molestation charges were fueled by likely feelings of inadequacy in the parents of the alleged child victims who were so enamored by Jackson.  Perhaps these parents did not believe that they could compete with the love and material fantasy that Michael Jackson provided to their children which caused them to lash out in desperation.  Jealousy combined with greed is highly combustible.  The media’s depiction of Michael Jackson as a plastic surgery obsessed eccentric made him an easy target and an unsympathetic victim.  It just wasn’t believable that someone that acted and looked like him could be kind, sensitive, compassionate and loving.  What was the motivation behind it all?  What was wrong with him?  There had to be something askew.  What if Michael Jackson’s motivation was simply to give hope to those less fortunate?   Was all of this then just the senseless destruction of a human being to satisfy our insecurities and quell our fears of the unknown and misunderstood.

As we reflect upon Michael Jackson’s life and now death, it is difficult not to feel sad for the man and view him in a tragic light.  With all of his power, wealth and fame, he now lies before us like a bird crushed after being pelted repeatedly by outsized stones.  Dejected, Jackson continued to turn inward, fearful of what the world he cared so deeply about changing for the better was throwing at him.  The drugs just served as an opiate to the pain of an artist and humanitarian that was overburdened by a mission that he didn’t believe he accomplished.  Addicted, it was the greed of those surrounding Michael Jackson who continued to indulge his desires out of self-preservation.  The numbness of the painkillers relieved the ache caused by knowing that despite what he sought to give and change in the society around him, the burden of his creations and the scathing critique it engendered had become too overwhelming for one person to sustain.  Michael Jackson was a modern Sisyphus, the loin clothed man condemned to repeatedly pushing a rock up a mountain only to see it roll back down.  Sadly though, our Sisyphus collapsed under the weight of his struggle.

Michael Jackson was inflated to the position of a pop deity, a mythical figure, only to be crucified and stoned by the media gods who created his success.  His bold eccentricities lied outside of the norm of standard, socially acceptable behavior but were they necessarily illegal or wrong?  No.  Most of Michael Jackson’s actions were unconventional yet, at the same time, wasn’t the grandeur of his celebrity and global status beyond anything that modern day culture has ever witnessed?  His grandeur, his eccentricity, each influenced and exaggerated the other.

It is undeniable that Michael Jackson’s immense celebrity and wealth allowed him to remove himself from mainstream society and observe the world from a privileged vantage point.  Sometimes though, it takes that fortunate but isolated position to be able to make the least polluted social observations and ultimately produce the most effective societal commentary through art.  Throughout history, the work and lives of multiple artists have been ridiculed and scorned by the public during their heyday, only to be placed posthumously into the canon of the Greats.  It is without doubt that Michael Jackson will, in due course, garner this same level of critical acclaim as an artist and most importantly, as a humanitarian.

  • Mr, jackson legacy will always live on in our hearts and souls
  • Excellent points, and I think Mr. Jackson and his legacy will be enduring proof of our very public mental illness as a society.
  • cawobeth
Yes Mr. Semino, sensationalism of the not so pleasant stories surrounding MJ are a "monumental disservice to Michael Jackson’s memory", legacy of honor.
As far as drugs having played a part in his life, it would have been respectable of media to mention the humility of MJ's public admittance to drug addiction, following the fire incident, rather than speculate about further drug use. MJ also had a history of insomnia for he worked very hard & intensely due to his extraordinary dedication to creative work.
"...burning concern for improving the lives of the disadvantaged and persecuted around the world."; so well put & so true. Furthermore, honest & genuine as can easily be seen in his eyes, seen by his demeanor and heard in his voice of song, speeches & interviews.
I am sorry that I missed your article when it came out. I got caught up in standing up to the mention of "allegations" in the reports of his passing. "Allegations"; it's in the word. Why even mention as this is not his legacy; quite the contrary. It would have been refreshing to see your article as too much media insisted upon embarking upon the perverse sensationalism which followed the horrid trial of 2005.
Thank you. Those of us who recognize an honest individual who should prove to be a great power of example, rather than slandered and defamed, would appreciate hearing from you again.

    Hi Matt,

My tear steaming down while reading this touchable article last July. Michael had given a lot to the world, in return, he was brutally crucified by the media and widely be misunderstood by the general public. There are a lot of sites pay tribute to & vindicate for him since his passing, meanwhile I also asked myself, what can I do to this wonderful human, to thank & defend for him since he was not here any more? Last month, Orianthi, a guitarist of Michael in TIT concert, defended for him in an interview. I made some copies of the interview and placed the them in our local post office where has a corner for recycle books, and they were all gone a few days after I revisited there.

Could I have your permission to make copies of your thoughtful article? It's so important to spread more accurate and positive information about Michael Jackson that we didn't hear and the medias have never reported before. Alone with your article I'll also put down the list of his individualy supported publically throughout his career. It is the only small thing that I can do for him and I desperately want more people be aware of the true Michael and he was the victim of media sensationalism.

Long overdue, but Michael deserved it.

Thank you & with best wishes,
    Ivy

My Lord, how tragic. I have been reduced to tears reading a few of the blogs.I can't even bear to read any further than Tiffany K's comment. I read somewhere that Michael Jackson said that he'd be better off dead. Unfortunately, given his experience of this world, I have to agree with him. R.I.P.

    Dear Matt Semino!
Thank you very much for your wonderful, Heartfelt article. I feel deep gratitude and respect.
The media separated us from Michael Jackson with a lie wall and we may not have got to know him really, the amazing, phenomenal man, who loved everybody, unconditional in his life, served the humanity. I feel saddnes, the media pretend so negativ „image” our largest humanitarian, who called the attention „for improving the lives of the disadvantaged and persecuted around the wordl”.
He represented so ethical values for wich we all would have been needed embracing him as an ideal to observe. I also hope that, when he don’t have honour, tribute and gratitude, on a unfortunate manner in his life, only to be placed posthumously into the canon of the Greats.
The people will understand, he’s made how much benefactions for us, for the humanity and good people lives in our midst, who will follow his mission.

Great commentary! That's what should be much more talked about: MJ's cultural and social meaning for the world and his message - not always about his face, his appearance, his private life. We could learn so much from him!
I wish more people would understand this. Thank you, Matt Semino!
  • K. Jones
Thank you Mr.Semino for your thoughtful article. I am not from the US, so I cannot begin to understand why Michael Jackson was treated the way he was in "The land from which he came". It saddens me to read the level of scorn and hatred that was dumped on this man by so many. Was it a race thing? Were people afraid of his powerful message of love? Michael Jackson was blessed and cursed with his incredible talent and genius. It kind of shocks me actually when I'm told by American fans that Michael's name continues to be dragged through the mud. Why??? He's gone, what more do they want. He can give no more, it's done.

I wish, that yes, those who hold hatred for Michael will read this article, but I really wish more fans would read this article too and think about what they're doing when they feel they must know every single detail about Michael's last days with us. It upsets me tremendously that anyone can have access to Michael Jackson's autopsy report and medical reports. Michael fought so hard to maintain some semblance of privacy and with his passing every last shred of that has been ripped open, not just by the media, but by his fans. Why oh why did the world have to know about Michael physical appearance, I was horrified when that first started coming out, not horrified by the details (which I tried my best to avoid) but what was being done to him and his loved ones. He is gone physically yes, but I believe even those who are no longer with us deserve their privacy, even if there is no law against it; I wished we could have respected his lifelong wish for privacy.

What does reading the autopsy report do for anyone, Michael is gone and it matters not what we know or do not know, unless you are a part of those who will be seeking justice through the legal system, I fail to understand why this in the public domain. It just doesn't seem right to me, it really doesn't.

It is time for us to stop analysing Michael's life and death under a microscope and start celebrating his life and the incredible contributions he made to humanity through his music and charitable work. I pray for all those who to continue to vilify Michael, that one day the veil of hatred that covers their hearts will be lifted.

To all Americans I am sorry if my next statement offends you, but I just have to voice my feelings. I love your president like most of the world and he has given us so much hope for a better tomorrow, but I was terribly disappointed at his almost casual remarks upon Michael Jackson’s passing. I wish he would have spoken more about Michael's incredible legacy.

I admire Michael Jackson's strength dealing with all that he did throughout his life. He was knocked down many times, but never stayed down. Michael you were an incredibly strong man and I acknowledge this fact, I wish you peace and happiness wherever you may be. With much love and respect, I say, see you later Michael.
  • caren
OMG I am a 66 year old grandmother who has followed Michael and his music for a long time. Finally here is a man who really GETS who Michael truly was,a lonely soul who was crushed by the thing he loved most, people, the music industry for whom he made millions and truth be told the American public of which was always fickle. They loved Michael in Europe and saw his soul and that is why he toured there and not so much in America. I will always love Michael and his children and hope that one day for their sake he is vindicated so the American people who always believed the worst in him can hang their heads in shame. I lived in a different era where we were so much more trusting and loving,Michael was just ahead of his time. We will miss you Michael, may God make up for all that humanity has done to you.
  • Darcel
Thank you for the comments about Michael, his humanitarian work and the message he relayed to us through his music. It is comforting to know that you studied his lyrics and did not just listen to the rhythm he used to get us to listen to the message he wanted to convey. The words he used to educate us in Earth Song, Heal the World, We Are the World, Will You Be There, Have You Seen My Childhood, Ghost, Beat It, Black & White, They Don't Really Care About Us, Leave Me Alone, Scream, Cry, and Lost Children are profound. The images he created in his videos made the songs even more powerful. As we walk through our lives and interact in our circles of influence I pray we will take the messages he gave us and pass them on to others. Blessings to you all. I hope one of these days in the near future, we will be able to see a series of these articles in print to educate and edifiy those around us and future generations. I speak to his messages every chance I get. Please continue to pray for Prince, Paris and Blanket.

    All MJ-Haters and Tabloid-Journalists: READ T H I S !!!!! Thank you, Matt Semino!
  • CathCoy
It isn't just tabloid journalists that made Michael Jackson's life a living hell on earth. It was medialoid--defined as mainstream media infected by tabloid journalism; the proliferation of sensationalism, triviality and disregard for privacy, with particular emphasis on news coverage of the sports and entertainment industries. Medialoid hides behind the First Amendment while they tear down society by pandering to humankind's basest instincts. From its presumed position as the final arbiters of what people should be thinking about, they smell blood in the water and circle the victim like a pack of braying hyenas.

There isn't a human being alive who could've withstood the onslaught of lies, innuendo and slander that was heaped on Jackson for well over 20 years.

There's a reason why the press is called “The Beast.” It's brutal in its quest for fodder to stoke its furnaces of ratings and profit. Jackson is still reviled by many—all because medialoid made him out to be a despicable person not worthy of mercy. Medialoid took the place of judge and jury and refused to accept that Jackson was NOT a child molester.

  • Excellent !! Everybody should be able to read this because enough is enough. My heart breaks every time I think of what Michael had to go through. What a cruel world we live in. Rest in Peace Sweet Angel - millions value your worth and I personally feel privilaged to have been touched by your sweet pure spirit. Thank You Michael ... much respect!

Thank you Matt Simona, for your gracious article. It has become fashionable to berate MJ. To write any article in his favour is to become isolated in the mad world of journalism.Thank God for you-tube which has shown us the human nature of MJ.No biased reporter can take that away from us.I learnt everything about MJ from the internet and learnt to love and respect him. If I had to only listen to the news then I too would have had a very biased opinion of him.
  • Susan
The truth is Michael Jackson was a genius. Genius cannot be understood; it just has to be accepted as fact. We had him and we brutalized him. We did not deserve him. Now we realize what we lost. What fools we are. Michael was not even given the simple respect he deserved as a fellow human being, let alone the respect he deserved for the magnificent gift that he was. Wonderful article Mr. Semino. Thank God there are some intelligent people in this world willing to write the truth.
  • Susan
What a refreshing take on Michael. You don't see too many brave articles like this. I believe Michael was ahead of his time. People can be so cruel. I don't know how Michael put up with people's ignorance for so long. I know I couldn't. What a sweet, gentle, brilliant, amazing, honourable man Michael was. Thank you for the enlightening article.

Finally, someone who shows mercy to this poor, lonely and misunderstood figure. People don't really realize how big Michael Jackson were and what he brought to us. He was huge, and he was the best entertainer ever lived. He was a humanitarian and he only wanted to spread love around the world and help those in need, especially children with cancer, AIDS etc. And of course, people have to think negative and say he's a pedophile just because he brought happiness to children too and healed the sick ones by being their friend and take them to Neverland and give them ONE happy day in their miserable lifes. People think so dirty these days, and can't possibly think that someone want to HELP children, only use them.
  • venica
Thanks for your well-written article. He deserved more than anyone else. He will be remembered for as an artist.
He once said, " Like Michelangelo, I know the creator will go, but his work survives. This is why to escape death, I attempt to bind my soul to my work. I give my all to my work. I want it to just live". Yes, your art lives on.
  • venica
Im waiting for the day when his name would be vindicated. I couldnt imagine how he went through his life during the allegations and how could able to comeback with This Is It. Watching This is it reminds us again what a viod the death of MJ had left on the world stage. After years of isolation, he came back with what would have been a greatest comeback tour. But all the glory of what could have been perished alongside Michael on June 25. He was such a great human being which we should respect him. I dont understand how the media could vilified him to death. How could those children that he wanted to help most bite him instead? The greed that blinded everything. It was painful to read what he went through the 2005 trail. He was physically and mentally torn apart. He went through hell and back. The Americans dont deserve him. He was respected in other part of the world but not in America. In the lyrics he wrote," I cant believe this is the land from which I came" He was not respected there but we love him here all around the world.
  • Eve
Well said! Thanks Matt for writing this. Everything that u said was true, Michael was misjudged, and it hurt him more when most of his fans turned their backs on him. He didnt deserve to be hurt, to be called names, and to be laughed at. He was a sweet, passionate person. And because of greed and jealousy, he has been taken away from his children, the ones who need him most. The media made it their business to crush MJ on a daily basis. They had no heart and no care in the world. And it's so funny that the ones that called him names, are the ones that are saying that they love him now. Michael will be greatly missed, I for one, would share his music with my kids some day, to let them know that there was once an angel who came to us, who gave us good music, who tried to entertain us to his best and who opened our eyes to see what's really going on. Music today is not the same as the music back then, and it's hard to know that we will never see MJ on stage again, dancing, doing the moon walk trying to help this world, by doing the great things that he did. I love you MJ, now, forever, always. RIP! Matt, by reading this u made me smile tonite, it's about time someone wrote something positive. Thanks again!

I have been a fan of Michael Jackson for over 40 years. It wasn't until his death that I realized how much I loved him and his music. His legacy must be protected. I believe because of his humanitarian work, he should receive the Nobel Prize. Now that he is immortal, the best of Michael Jackson should be known to the world especially here in America where he was vilified the most. He never really got the honor and respect he deserved as a person and a caring, godfearing human being.
  • CathCoy
Unfortunately, Nobel prizes are not awarded posthumously and probably never will be.
  • Reading this article makes me cry all over again. Knowing these massive burdens that he had to live with is just beyond any words. Now he is dead, and for him to have died knowing that half the world still thought of him the way the media discribed him hurts even more. I don't think there is hardly any human being out there that went through so much hell, especially a man like Michael Jackson. Just look at him, hear him speak, listen to his songs, how could anyone even do this to him. God I don't know what we as society have become and are still becoming but we are going the wrong way!!! I sincerely like Michael Jackson's name to be cleared of all the alligations that were thrown at him and it is time that the United States of America issue an official excuse to this Family. That is the least they can do now. L O V E has always been the answer for Michael, but L O V E seems not to exist in our world anymore. But God will have a big say in all of this and everything happens for a reason so knowing this is my consolation and I will continue to pray for justice for Michael Jackson.

You are absolutely right. The problem is how to get there. May be MJ estate need to take actions..

This was an excellent piece written about Michael Jackson. Focusing on his work and his belief for all human kind. This is something that has not been touched upon much and when you think about his trials, it just did not add up to all of what he was accused of.
It is so different to read positives about him, as many of us need to read this and remember.
  • Michele Burke
Mr. Semino, I am deeply moved and impressed with your summation of Michael Jackson's life. Your comments here are the best I have read. You have captured the true Michael Jackson, one that as you said, most people had forgotten or refused to see. You are correct in saying that all the attention given to his eccentricities in life and reasons for his death are misplaced. People should stop stressing over these things and look beyond this to remember him as a better human than most of us can claim to be. Michael Jackson was too good for this era. The world simply was not ready for or accepting of a human being of his stature. I commend you for your honest and factual reminiscence of Michael Jackson..........Michele Burke, St. John's, NL

FINALLY, a well written, correct article.Yes it's true how we taunt michael cos we just can't accept how badly we fare when we look in the mirror that michael tries to get us to see .He just wanted to be loved and to love.I never fully understood the saying 'the pen is mightier than the sword' until I realised how the media was hellbent on potraying him.You have given some soothing balm to my soul as I have been reflecting a lot on Michael's death. Why do we value one only when he's no longer with us?Now that it has become fashionable to like Michael,I find some consolation that at least there is less hatred, more love ,the way Michael wanted it.IMay god forgive you;Martin Bashir,Diane Dimond,Uri geller,Tom Sneddon,Tommy mottola, that rabbi, joseph jackson, jordan chandler, gavin arvizo, bill bray .

Sorry, no excuses. Tabloid media, disguised as mainstream media, as margaret above pointed out, was hellbent on the destruction of Michael Jackson. Had they lauded him according to his many accomplishments, the rest of the world would've gone along with them. Yes, the pen is mightier than the sword, and we intend to use the power of the pen to force the media to re-examine their methodology and take a self-critical look at the way they treated Michael Jackson. Michael's multi-millions of admirers are angry! Watch for the launch of www.mjtruthnow.com and join us as we gain momentum to turn back the tide of media brutality. It's the least we can do for such an exceptional human being as Michael Jackson. In his own words... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r0ouKeK4FI

I just read your article and would like to applaud you. It was well balanced and objective, something sorely lacking in many reports about Michael Jackson. For many years I have seen media coverage that annoyed and disappointed me. I am not a 'fan' at all, but something is seriously amiss when a great humanitarian contribution is overlooked in favour of critique about someone's looks or eccentricities. Ad nauseum. The sheer scale of judgmental opinion was too much and oh so vicious. I felt like I was watching a bunch of playground bullies beating up a small kid each lunchtime, and powerless to intervene.
So I thank you again for your piece. I agree that in time we will look back and acknowledge this man's true legacy. Thank you.

A consice, and sincere writing. It collates, and encompasses nearly every and all that his fans have wished to present to the world on Michael's behalf. Michael Jackson was an immense omnificent figure that America, in particular, failed to love, as much as the love he gave to the world. With support of the country he was born in, he could have survived the unnecessary turbulence of his life. He was lonely because he was just too deep. There was no one of this earth he could find that offered absolute understanding of his complexity, and because of this no one was able to quell the agony he was forced to bear. Yes, he had close family members, he also had some close friendships, yet only someone like him could have helped him transcend all the horrific beatings of his soul that he absorbed. It's just too bad that humans often start to value ones work and worth after death.
  • hoocheekoo
In some ways, the way Michael was treated and dealt with is a direct reflection of the times in which he lived. The 60's, 70's and 80's were a more innocent time, a more dignified time, a more honorable time. But something happened to us in the early 90's as a culture. Trust gave way skepticism, we were trying to remove a president from office while more serious issues were not dealt with, sensational trials were starting to be televised and the media became more a part of the story as opposed to the teller of the story, tabloid journalism was starting to infect the mainstream media. A sense of deep anger, division and hatred began in the early 90's and continues to this day. A spirit of compromise, which once glued our political debates to rational solutions, suddenly began to evaporate.

Michael Jackson was not a man who paid much attention to political trends and movements. I read once..I don't know if it's true..that Michael missed President Gerald Ford's presidency altogether and didn't know who he was. He lived in his own world both because he had to and because he wanted to. He was afraid of the outside world and maybe, on occasion, not interested. But he may have been swept up into the trends anyway. His "fall from grace" began in the early 90's at the same time our political and cultural mistrust and skepticism was coming to life. Did he become one of those icons suddenly finding themselves in the bullseye of public ridicule and what we now know were hypocritical projections from many accusers with the authority and power to destroy a public figure's career? Michael was odd in the late 70's and 80's. He adopted a chimp, he played with children, he collected mannequins. But he was accepted, recognized and honored in spite of those oddities because we still respected the abilities and talents of people more than getting "up close and personal" with their private lives. We also still knew how to enjoy ourselves and Michael helped us with that.

So did Michael suddenly change or did the times change? To me, the 50-year old man who died on June 25, 2009 was the same man I've known since he was 9 years old. Michael was still intact and still had his integrity. But he was defeated and exhausted. He did not die in vain, however. He had more supporters and friends than he realized who see the world and its issues the same way he did. We're still here. We still have work to do until it's our turn to say goodbye.

    ear Mr. Semino,

On behalf of all the people who love and are inspired by Michael Jackson, I want to thank you deeply for your glorious article about his importance and his contributions to our planet and to our society.

I am a 45 year old Dutch woman, living in Amsterdam. I work as a trainer and a coach and sometimes I perform as a singer. I have been a 'fan' of Michael Jackson since I was 10 years old. Thank you for putting into words many of the things I intuitively feel for and about him.

You definitely have the gift of eloquent speech and poignant use of words, but apart from that, you bring up many beautiful points and insights. Thus, by this article you have broadened my vision of Michael Jackson's position in the larger scheme of things.

For many years, mainly due to the media slandering of Michael, his plastic surgery and his gradual 'waning', I have felt somewhat uncomfortable about my feelings for him. It became almost painful to love him.

Now, since his untimely death, I have read so many interesting and uplifting testimonies and articles about Michael Jackson and his contributions from intelligent and upright people such as yourself, that I am happy and proud to again say that I stand behind Michael Jackson, all the way.

I want to thank you very much for your insights, vision and support.
To me, it soothes the pain of his absence if the world can at least learn to appreciate his contributions and personality in it's true light. And your article helps to establish that vision.

God bless you and your dear ones. Keep up the good work!

    With love,

    Rati

I am a firm believer in don't believe everyhting you hear. Michael Jackson was more than the Greatist Entertainer he was a humanitarian who called to us to Heal our world yet the media has continued to cover him and his family in controversy and rumors. It is time to put an end to media speculations. Michael Jackson Legacy is left to his fans and our voice will be heard.

I saw this on anther site:

    From a nurse:

I think MJ had a condition called reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome a very painful nerve disorder that is debilitating and can cause you to end up in a wheelchair and unable to walk if it is in your legs/feet. It is red hot burning pain with electic sensations (like a sparkler up against the skin) and color and temperature changes (hot to cold) in the injured area usually the extremities which can spread throughout the body. The photo of his spider bite shows one foot is red and the other foot is white. I bet he was never properly diagnosed for this condition and suffered a great deal. This condition does require very strong pain meds or an implanted spinal cord stimulator. Adrenalin makes it much worse.

PS In extreme cases of RSD patients will be treated with a 5 day ketamine coma in an attempt to shut off the nervous system and stop the pain long term.

  • This is one of the few fair and unbiased commentaries that I have read about Michael Jackson since his death. It seem the media deified him in the early years of his life, then took pleasure in bashing him from the 90's on. The child molestation charges were motivated solely by greed. Everyone knows that Michael was a smart businessman, but niave when it came to choosing his friends. He trusted the wrong people, and married the wrong woman. He was a genuis, and perhaps the most misunderstood public figure in our lifetime. He's been gone for almost 3 months, and they still won't leave him alone. Sorry to lose him, but I think that for the first time ever, he's truly at peace. It infuriates me to know that he died without having his name cleared of the false charges while the shysters who set him up live on.

    Absolutely brilliant article!

It is a shame mainstream media cannot stop reporting their tabloid fabricated crap and report articles more like this one.
I have two teenage children, who are obviously at the very impressionable stage. They are learning fast to not believe anything that is reported in mainstream media as it is merely a fabrication. I hope their generation somehow phase ot this tabloid junk and find a medium that reports on facts. How many more important figures in our world have to go through hell via media propaganda? Why do we constantly allow the media to get away with it? Why do we allow the real truth and the real issues of our world to be constantly overlooked?

I hope that my children can learn from what Michael Jackson, one of the greatest humanitarians of our time, tried to teach us. I hope they can see the vision he set before us and I hope they act upon it. There are many lessons to be learned from MJ. Michael inspired me to work harder at making this world a better place in every possible way I can, I am also more inspired now to instill this vision in my children as it will be their generation who continue this work.

I will be most certainly forwarding this article to my friends and family.

Well done, great job!. Thank you for actually writing something worth reading.

Looking logically’ at the information the media has given. “MR. Michael Jackson” was supposedly addicted to all’ these’ prescription drugs (pain killers were stated at one point) yet none’ of the drugs he was supposedly’ addicted to' were reported found in his blood. The only drugs reported found in his bloodstream, were those administered by dr. Murray’ by his own admission. If MR Michael Jackson was addicted’ to any of the drugs’ he received the day of his death, then’ why did dr. Murray administer them’ willingly? Since’ dr. Murray, believed’ that MR. Michael Jackson was becoming addicted’ to Propofol. How did this addiction occur? Perhaps the fact’ that dr. Murray himself had been giving “MR Michael Jackson” Propofol every night for six week’s may have had something to do with it? Also’ were dr. Murray’s credentials and license current, proper and up-to date for practicing medicine in the state of California, No. The fact’ remains, that dr. Murray is not a trained anesthesiologist’ and was not performing surgery’ dr Murray is culpable, for knowingly’ administering’ Propofol’ causing’ a Man’s death’ and he deserves punishment, plus’ he had no business giving Propofol to begin with! He was treating MR Michael Jackson for insomnia, not performing surgery. Doctors are supposed to treat a symptom’ of an illness’ with appropriate medications, Propofol’ is not an appropriate medication’ for insomnia. If you go into surgery' does your anesthesiologist leave you completely unattended’ in induced coma’ to go to the restroom’ or to make personal phone calls’ while your unconscious’ under anesthesia?

This dr. Murray is guilty of more that just gross negligence. What about the fact that he transported (or had transported) these medications across state lines? What about the fact’ that he had his assistants’ in Houston destroy possible evidence, hindering an investigation? No doctor hires a lawyer immediately after a patient’s death, unless’ they know for a fact’ that they did something wrong! MR. Michael Jackson did not kill himself’ instead he trusted a doctor to take care of him’ who failed to do the job’ he was paid’ and entrusted to do! Since dr. Murray reports to suddenly notice’ MR. Michael Jackson not breathing, then’ logically dr Murray did not witness’ the onset of distress, and if’ dr. Murray detected a slight or weak pulse, the Patient was breathing {Resuscitating} on his own, so why then’ why would CPR even be administered? Why was the upstairs heat maximized? Why was he attempting CPR on the bed, instead’ of the hard surface of the floor’ in the stifling heat, no less? Why would dr. Murray stop “CPR” to run to the kitchen, to tell the chef’ to send up a child’ for witnessing CPR administration’ to body, that’ was later pronounced by paramedics to evidence {blood gravitation} Lividity?

Why’ does dr. Murray not call 911 immediately, because he claims’ he doesn’t know the address’ to the house’ he has been driving to’ every evening’ for two Months? This’ dr. Murray does not have any phone, or access to any household phone, available to call 911’ immediately ‘at first sign of distress, yet’ has a phone available to make other’ phone calls? Then’ dr. Murray insisted’ paramedics continue CPR even after Lividity was noticed (Lividity is blood gravitation’ said to only’ “set in” several hours after death) dr. Murray insisted’ MR. Michael Jackson not be declared dead at his home (home death=immediate autopsy) dr. Murray insisted’ oxygen to be administered in Ambulance {home death= immediate autopsy} dr. Murray refused’ to sign the death certificate (avoiding liability) dr. Murray avoids’ police questions for several day’s’ following MR. Michael Jackson's death, thus’ allowing day’s of Crime Scene contamination with all homes content’s removal, plus’ real possibility of evidence destruction, allowing time to contact office assistant Stacey Howe’ to possibly interfere with evidence at his Los Vegas properties!

It’s reported that it takes at least 40 mg of Propofol to even put someone to sleep, yet dr. Murray states’ he only gave MR Michael Jackson 25 mg. If you are attempting to help him sleep, why even administer a dose so small that he will not’ go to sleep? Why the Iv therapy pole and Propofol bag’ if only’ the 25 mg. bottle was administered directly by port? If he only administered 25 mg, why did the autopsy, find’ a lethal dose? Propofol is said to leave the blood stream very rapidly, so’ for a lethal dose to be found, a lethal dose had to be administered, this Doctor’ is not only guilty of gross negligence and malpractice, he is guilty of Murder! Certainly’ dr. Murray’s admittance of inducing coma’ with Propofol’ to treat insomnia’ for Six week’s’ without death resulting, factor’s in! Then’ theirs even the appearance’ of evidence’ of assumption’ of Premeditation, with possibility of medication being used, to enable’ manipulate’ or control’ MR. Michael Jackson’ for whatever reason, never-the-less’ this dr. Murray deserves’ to go to prison for life, before’ he can harm someone else.

Calling “Mr. Michael Jackson” Jacko or Wacko Jacko {his only request’, mind you, was not being Disrespected’ in that manner} relates, only’ the posted News gossip’ attempting to cloak’ and downgrade his insurmountable legacy’ slandering by assumption’ Narcotic’ and Stimulant’ addiction, with emphasis’ on Psychotic, furthering’ former press posting’s’ of assumed’ Pedophile, disproven’ {advancing only’ the popularity of their Media’ while fueling’ Hate} child molester, disproven, Drug Addiction disproven’ by Toxicity report! Michael avoided cigarettes, alcohol, sugar and soft-drinks, he was mostly a vegetarian, excluding his end of the month’ fried chicken fetish, he often’ extreme fasted’ or skipped food for day’s’ simply preferring not to eat’ has been reported as far back as childhood. Joe Jackson said michael died at 110 to 115 Pounds. Accepting’ certain pain relief dependency, plus’ dangerous’ unusual’ sleep aid medication, those closest “in his inner circle” failed to observe’ addiction dependency, present and/or past. MR. Michael Jackson amounted’ Thirteen Grammy’s, Thirteen Guinness World Records, Two Walk of Fame Stars, Twice in Rock and Roll’s Hall of Fame, he also’ was a notable Philanthropist and Humanitarian, with’ 300 Million donated to charities, many assume closer to 500 Million {this reveals the ever expanding’ fan devotion’ towards Michael’ not hero’ worshiping’ being older than Michael} the entertainer of the Millennium’ is a gross understatement, neither deity’ or divine, But’ second to not-one’ single earthly being, past’ present or future, what then’ say’ can we do, theirs the “this is it” likeness of “Michael” and theirs the “Sixty Six foot Statue” of Sam Houston’ possibly use Michael’s 20% of trust for charities to restore Never-land for use by Kurt Cameron’s Camp Firefly’ to continue Michael’s Dream’ of allowing ill’ kid’s and their families a vacation’ honoring the “Pied Piper” Michael’s Peter-pan-ishness forever’ if justification erects a’ for the children’ by the people’ statue, so be it, Michael Jackson’s name will surpass Martin Luther King’s as far as’ schools, roads, streets and holidays, being honorably named’ for his remembrance.

With all that being said’ why did “MR. Michael Jackson” partake in Propofol use, was his insomnia unique’ was his insomnia caused by pain from his scalp burn’ or did he suffer from being predisposed to lifelong insomnia, from birth’ or adolescence? What we can ask is’ when did he first improperly receive the Propofol for insomnia relief’ and Dr. Arnold Klein becomes suspect, following that’ thought process, we back-date to timeframe’ just before’ Prince Jackson was born, when’ Debbie Rowe / Jackson was Dr. Klein’s assistant, conjecturing collusion, both’ assumptive birth parent’s of Prince Jackson’ with ongoing relationship to MR. Michael Jackson up to before’ he went overseas, advancing to near present’ we are informed dr. Murray acquired’ the Propofol that killed’ MR. Michael Jackson at Allied Pharmacy’ in Las Vegas, be they’ individual or be they’ intra-national the “fly by night” Pharmacy failed to begin acting responsible, following their’ Sports Illustrated’ implication for filling e-mail order’s of “Steroid’s in Sports” 2007 investigation, supplying Chris Benoit {Murdered, Woman, Son then’ Suicide} also’ Firemen, Police, Wrestlers, Pro Sport Athletes and School aged kid’s’ easy access to illegal non-prescribed Steroid enhancements, Accusing’ Self Prescribing’ Dr. Kline of enabling’ Michael to also’ Self Prescribe, with Debbie Rowe mediating’ as an unlicensed anesthesiologist, through Mickey Fine Pharmacy’s same building supply’ that charged MR. Michael Jackson $25,000.00 per. Month’ before dr. Murray began medical experimentation.

Now’ what can everyone’ do, the Autopsy report’ may be in second copy, the Cause of Death’ report’ has been Amended, the Crime Scene was ignored’ until after the mover’s gutted the household belonging’s, the Ambulance and Hospital preformed CPR to a Cadaver, the Hospital’ provided no press release, theirs been few’ if any press releases’ / news conferences’ by Police, dr. Murray’s phone call to Houston was not traced’ until after a TMZ story was published’ a month later, theirs no definitive time-line of events established, we are in the dark as far as Michael’s itinerary’ interrupted by Death, and MR. Michael Jackson’s history’ of false incrimination’s’ been proven’ again and again, involving the same’ or near-by’ responsible governmental officials. Politics won’t help, unless everyone complains to every politician near and far, big and small. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was at MR. Michael Jackson’s Forest Lawn Services, it’s overdue time’ for stepping up to the Podium’ and talking to us, the police report said’ the Propofol that killed Michael {police already’ reported from’ Los Vegas Pharmacy} was from untraceable origins’ Propofol was under Recall, meaning’ Police are claiming Anastasia’ unsafe, there’ tripping over their’ own misinformation? Barack Obama the buck’ has a stopping point, politicians need to step-up’ or step-down’ this will not’ go quietly into the Night.

In the end, the most important thing is to be true to yourself and those you love and work hard. Work like there's no tomorrow. Train’ Strive. Really train and cultivate your talent to the highest degree. Be the best at what you do. Get to know more about your field than anybody alive. Use the tools of your trade, if it's books or a floor to dance on or a body of water to swim in. Whatever it is, it's yours. That's what I've always tried to remember… Respectfully (“MR. Michael Jackson”} Deceased!

What I don't understand is why is this doctor or doctors not charged with at least gross negligence? Something is wrong in LA. The LAPD has mishandled Michael case just like they did with the O.J. trial; crime scene contamination and lack of perserving its integrity.
I often wondered how Michael came to start using propofol. Who introduced him to this medication? When did it start? Michael use to get very bad headaches on his tours in Europe and had to cancel shows. They called his headaches vascular. This has been going on for years. He never got the help he needed because of greedy enablers like Dr. Klein and Dr. Murray.
As a fan, I wonder how I can help to bring justice for Michael and to further protect his true legacy?

Thank you, thank you for this article. I grew up with Mike. While I was a fan of the music and dance in my adult life it was the humanitarian and gentle spirit that I admired most. Losing him now has been devistating to the core. He tried so hard to teach multi generations. He gave so much of himself. But no one seemed to notice or care. Until now. now. He truly was a gift from God. We will never have another. He may have been our last chance. God bless you Mike. I love you.

    I just saw this on another site;

Written by: David Nordahl (MJ’s personal artist): People accused Michael of trying to be white, which is ridiculous. When I first met him, his vitiligo had gone to the right side of his face and down his neck. Most of his hand was white. Stark white patches. He used makeup because he had to. Without it, he was speckled all over. (Nordahl never witnessed drug use by MJ but was keenly aware of pain problems that lingered after the star’s hair caught fire on a Pepsi ad soundstage.) When they were trying to repair that burned spot, he had a balloon under his scalp that was inflated. He let me feel it. It was a huge mound. As the skin got stretched, they cut it out and stitched the scalp. He was in excruciating pain. ( Jackson seemed an unlikely addict , Nordahl says, noting his avoidance of cigarettes, alcohol, softdrinks and sugar.) He was mostly vegetarian. (About MJ as Dad) Michael was a real dad, not a Hollywood dad. He’d get up at night to feed them bottles. He’d change them, bathe them, everything a mother does. Those kids were so respectful and courteous, just sweet.

    To Mr. Semino,
You are such a marvellous writer. The article really touched my heart as it made me burst into tears while I was reading it. Michael Jackson would have had a better life if he was treated with respect by the media and the public. Unfortunately, things didn't work out that way and it left so many ppl who love him crying. Before his passing, I'd known nothing about him as the media always ridiculed him and depicted him badly. Not knowing enough about him really has become one of my regrets in my life. I'm still feeling sad about his passing although he not part of my family. I feel sad for the world has lost such a true person with the purest soul and heart. On the other hand, I have to find words to comfort myself by thinking that Mr Jackson now is in heaven, a place where he can relax without suffering stress and excrutiating pain from malicious and gruesome ppl. I definitely will remember those ppl who hurt him previously, such as the nasty devilish journalist Martin Bashir. HE WON"T BE FORGIVEN for he has done to Michael in the past. Even since I watched the interview, it has given me an impression that the world always tries to torment and hurt nice ppl and that is very sad. By the way, I'm very glad to have read your excellent article. Thank you for depicting Michael the way that he is (to me his soul lives with us forever).

Wonderful work! You've managed to put into words everything I've been thinking and feeling for so many years, but didn't quite know how to express.

I am 50-years old and have been a fan of Michael's and The Jacksons since 1969. The man you described so eloquently in this article is the great man and humanitarian I always knew (although from afar), respected and loved for so many years. His untimely passing has marked the end of an era for a lot of us who grew up with him and his brothers.

It was painful over the years for me to watch the way the media reduced him to tabloid fodder, making a mockery of his obvious personal struggles resulting from a childhood that none of us could even begin to understand, and trodding underfoot all of his great work, achievements and humanitatrian efforts that touched and uplifted so many people all around the world. I don't think I even need to mention the humiliating and disgusting sideshow of a trial he went through in 2005.

Instead of understanding and letting him get on with his life in the peace that he deserved, America rejected him and told him to get lost. And he did with his precious children in tow. It was heartbreaking and shameful to watch. I thank God for his children, as I'm sure they gave his life so much meaning during his lonely exile. He probably would have left us a whole lot sooner had he not had them to pour his love into. But as much as I deeply mourn his loss, I also can't help but feel relieved in some odd way, because he is finally free and in a lovely place where no one can hurt him anymore.

It is my hope that the naysayers will finally one day see the man for the beautiful, thoughtful and brilliant HUMAN BEING that his family, friends and fans always knew he was. But even if they do not, they can't take away the fact that Michael Joseph Jackson was loved. God Bless his life.

Thank you again, and I will be sure to pass this wonderful article to as many people as I can.

    Hi 2CentSally -
Thank you for that wonderful reply....it is heartening for me to see that other people feel as I do...I deeply mourn the loss of someone I have never met and it is strange for me and hard for my family to understand. But it is a mixture of admiration for his art, which was not really recognized later in his life, and regret over what happened to him in the media and how an endless stream of people tried to extort/wrest money and gain fame from him. I feel a painful disappointment in human beings and how they act.

    thanks, Kathy

I don't talk to anyone about it really, because I don't feel like having to explain how I feel to someone I know won't understand. I do find places (online) where I can express my thoughts and find others like me..like this place and you! :)

Thank you so much for this article. You really captured the heart and soul of Michael Jackson. He was a giver all his life, he gave and gave. Even though the media, the accusers, and the others who were suppose to look out for him took and took from him, Michael still loved and gave himself for the world. He never stopped and never gave up. It's the greed of the media and his so-called caregivers that crushed him and ultimately killed him. Michael will always be remembered for not only his talent, but for the great humanitarian he was. Those that blasted him will be die off and be forgotten. Michael will live on forever. In the end, Michael really has won the victory and now he is free to enjoy it.

Thank you for posting such a bold article. Do we dare to think that Michael Jackson is actually a messenger from God other than the a freak or tragic weirdo potrayed by the media?

I came to know Jackson's music and his life after his passing. After spending many many hours reading/watching extensively interviews, articles and his songs, I came to love Michael Jackson and came to the conclusion that he is the most misunderstood human being. People project their own narrow perspective and limitations onto Jackson. A man can not be that good hearted (just because they are not). These people include the so called elite of our society --- journalists, attorneys and DA. Jackson's life reflects how low we have become, not how low he has become.

    Dear Matt,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this article. It's a very deep and honest representation of the modern cultural transformation that our society is undergoing. Needless to say that it has chosen a wrong direction.
I doubt "that society will reflect on the principles that it follows and the values it embraces". It is easier to focus the anger against one person (like MJJ) than to go through a painful and "unconfortable period of public self-reflection".
Still I'm thankful that persons like you do exist. You give me a glimpse of hope that real human values will prevail, transcending these shallow times.
    Keep doing the good,
    D

The ULTIMATE article about Michael Jackson.
I agree with every single sentence.

    thank you

You didn't deny his odd behavior (thank God people aren't able to intrude on and over-analyze what I do), yet, you did touch on the wonderful things he did. So many other news sources take the low road and manipulate the publics emotions. Who could hold up under all of what he must have gone through with the same grace: "Michael Jackson’s tremendous talent, success, wealth and public adoration were at odds with his extreme loneliness, fear, addiction and destruction of reputation by public opinion." You also deserve kudos for not downplaying the incredible amount of public service this man put in. I recently found out he donated his share of proceeds from the Victory tour to charity (didn't know that), and he did so much more. He should have been more inspiring than he got the chance to be. I finally hear him loud and clear. This really was a case of shooting the messenger.

Every time I see nasty comment or mocking giggle about Michael, I feel a stab in my heart and get really angry. My heart is full of stab wounds that need to heal somehow and I hope God will help me with this. My only consolation is that in Heaven, Michael feels only the praise, love, appreciation, gratitude, and deep sympathy from millions of his fans who were voiceless on Earth. His wounded and battered soul needs that to heal and recover. Thank goodness, the fans totally outnumber the critics, by a hundred thousands to one with an unmatched depth of passion for Michael !!. It is a great comfort for me to think that from now on, Michael will see nothing but love, love, love and endless love., instead of endless hate he had to encounter on this Earth for no valid reason.

Truly, God is the only true salvation, God who sees everything, who cares about justice and who makes everything right in the end. I thank Him for giving us and sustaining Michael and now taking care of him in Heaven. From now on, each time my heart gets stabbed, I will say "love you, Michael " to counteract my pain so that my love for him will somehow contribute to healing his wounds and that in turn hopefully heals my wound as well. Hope this works cause I have lots of pain in my heart for the terrible injustices done to such a special wonderful human being as Michael.
  • Tiffany K - Your post is one of the best posts I've read. I get that same stabbing feeling. It's been 11 months now....and I"m still up at 1:30 am --- reading, posting and fighting! I belong to the same group 'CathCoy' mentions http://www.mjtruthnow.com and right now vindication for Michael's name and the fighting for the truth about this beautiful man, needs to be known all over the world. This is what gives me strength.

    Hi, Poeticowl,,

I am totally with you about how I feel about Michael. I too carry a deep sadness in my heart for the most loving person that I ever knew and somehow the sun no longer shines as bright since he is gone. If God had told me to come up with the most loving soul in a human form, I couldn't have conjured up Michael Jackson, cause he was more than I could have conceived possible as a human being. ( don't think he was divine though) . This is really difficult to deal with, how to bring back the normalcy into my life again,

Matt, What a Beautiful, Solid, Honest Heartfelt account of Michael. If more "media" would tell the truth, instead of "hearsay" from their socalled informants, Michaels life might have been a little less troublesome.
I thought there was only one person who knew Michael so well, J. Randy Taraborrelli. I just finished reading his book:The Magic, The Madness, The Whole Story>> Michael Jackson. What a Wonderful book. But NOTHING compared to what you have written.
Michael deserved sooo very much more from the media, and the World around him.
Its a shame more Americans do not have the Vast feelings of Love and Respect his Overseas fans seem to have. Sometimes Im ashamed to call myself an American.
I have read all of the comments posted here, and With your Permission, I am going to send a copy of your writing to every Magazine, TV site, and other media I possibly can. Your story needs to be READ by the likes of Larry King, Diane Sawyer, and Barbara Walters. Martin Bashir also,(what a cheap tawdry character).
To all of the Commenters who have written here.... I am sooo impressed with all who are sooo caring of Michael. I have "tabbed" all of the websites you have suggested so I can further follow and learn more about such a Wonderful Man.
    Thank You all

    Matt:
That was the most TOUCHING and HEART FELT body of work, dedicated to our beloved Michael Jackson that I have read. You have opened eyes wide open and said what needed to be said. The burdens placed upon Michael's shoulders was so tremendous, so overwhelming, that even in his songs he pleaded: I am only human...I can't do it by myself. Did no one hear him?

My heart is crushed and I am left feeling lonely and so very sadened. The world built him up so high then slowly but surely picked him apart...displaying for everyone all of his deepest insecurities and self-doubts. For one so incapacitated by shyness, it was torture. I cry for the lonely boy he was inside. I mourn for the misunderstood youth and man that he was.

He only ever wanted to inspire us to make this a better place for ourselves and future generations. His greatest happiness was in MAKING US HAPPY.

Through his music and his artistry, he will live on. He was The Greatest Entertainer we have ever seen. Remember these words, he quoted time and again: The creator will go but the art will live on.

He put his heart and soul into his legacy. Let the world know that he mattered, that he made a difference in YOUR life.

He has inspired me so much. Mostly, he has taught me tolerance, patience, love and faith. I will continue to share my love of Michael with everyone. Currently, I am sharing pdf files of his books Moonwalk and Dancing The Dream. In my own small way, I am sharing Michael.
  • Name
Before Michael's death, I didn't know much about him. I used to see all sorts of tabloids screaming nasty headlines about him at the drugstore checkout, and I always felt so sorry for him. It became obvious to me that he was a target, for no one should always get so much cruel attacks so consistently, and my heart bled for him each time. It got so difficult for me, that I had to purposely avert my eyes no to look, but I knew they were there, and my heart sank. After Michael's death, I heard Jarmaine say that Michael was a gift from God and he had a mission. I also heard many of Michael's close friends say that he was the kindest and most loving person they have met. Hearing this, I became interested in him, for not many can remain so loving after so many years of endless vicious attacks, and I decided to learn about who Michael Jackson was.

I had no idea that he wrote and produced many of his songs, no idea that his music came to him in totality often from the above, no idea about the lyrics of his songs were so socially conscious, that he could dance like that, and he had done so much charity work. I stayed hours watching youtube, listening his songs, reading the lyrics, watching the interviews and reading the book , "Michael Jackson Conspiracy". The more I learned about him, the more I realized how very special he was. One thing that stood out about him was that he was always consistently the same, no matter what the situation was. The 60 minutes interview truly convinced me that Michael was real, he means what he says and he truly believes and lives what he says, even when the effect was so overwhelmingly negative to his reputation.

I have come to believe that Michael was LOVE, that was his essence, and that after all the horrible things done to him by the enemies, they couldn't change his basic character, they couldn't make him into a bitter, angry and hateful person that many of us probably would have become. We hear "Love conquers all", and it sounds so altruistic, but I think in Michael's case, it was true. His love seems to have been more divine than human (not saying that he was divine) and with his open heart and outstretched arms, he sent his special love to the poor, the hungry, the sick, the weak, the unloved, and the lonely all his life. In spite of all the attacks, he kept his heart open so that he could share it with others to reach out and touch the their hearts and souls. I think this is why so many of us feel that Michael was like a family member, that his death feels more personal, not just of another celebrity.

So, now I understand what the world has lost. We didn't just lose an entertainer, a celebrity, we lost Love, a special kind of love gift wrapped in beautiful wrappings that were delivered to our door once in a while, but now no more. We have old gifts to keep, but we know the new ones will never arrive. When I read the postings of his fans on his memorial site, they are so gut-wrenching, they bring tears to my eyes, because often those are the same feelings that I feel now. In a way, I am glad that Michael settled the first case, because it gave him another 8 years of his creative productive life during which time he did an immense amount of good in the world. Had he gone to the court, his reputation would have been throughly destroyed by the media frenzy. "Michael Jackson conspiracy" says how much Michael's fans sustained him during the trial, and I am thankful to all the fans who believed in him and stood by him and helped him immeasurably.

I bought several CDs of his (I didn't own any before) and listen to Invincible songs carefully. They are all so beautiful and I am sad that none of them are ever played on the radio I listen to. When I watch him on youtube, I feel happy and sad at the same time. I hope Michael's music will last 100 or 200 years like the ones by the giants of music, for no matter how much technology advances, art comes from people, and I can't imagine anyone like him coming along any time soon.

I wonder if true love can be proven without sacrifices and sufferings.. If Michael can be asked " would you do it all over again knowing all the pains that came along with your gifts ?", he may say, "yes". His friend said that Michael said that he wanted to help children so much that if the meida crucified him for that, then let that be. I hope Michael can see now in totality how much he helped the world, that his numerous sufferings weren't in vain, and millions of people present and future will look at his work and wonder the beauty of it all, then he may think his sufferings were all worth it, that he didn't have an easy, happy, fun filled, successful, wonderful life who could never connect with the rest of the world population. His art was him, and they were all authentic from his soul.

Of course, this doesn't excuse all the wrongs the media has done, but after all said and done, those critics will disappear into oblivion, but Michael's work will continue to shine and glow, and he will be so busy hugging and talking to millions of his fans in Heaven. The enemies may have destroyed his body, but they couldn't destroy his spirit, for as he said he was Unbreakable. I do feel sad about his children, that is probably one thing Michael feels regret, and hopefully God takes good care of them. Thank you Michael for all the love you shared throughout your life, you were truly special and I am glad to have learned about you,

    Dear Matt,

I just got chance to read your commentary about MJ. It is one of most thoughtful article I have read in past 6 months. Thank you so much for your strong message to this numb society.

The very strange thing is that MJ was received overwhelmingly well internationally but not in US, especially US Media. Why this county considered his behaviors "eccentric" but whole world did not think that way? We have to exclude British Tabloid since they have no credit at all. Our country simply trashed/destroyed our own hero and we did not even realized at here. Even Obama was hesitated to recognize MJ's contribution. I simply can not stand on the fact. I am not sure money is the only reason driving this whole tragedy. But I do believe that this society is very sick to the point that we do not know how to respect human right and how to respect the truth.

I would love to learn what is your view about the reason behind this?

I have to say that "This is it" is a powerful wakening documentary which provided profound value for people to review.
  • Sherry
I came through the exact path as you did. I learned everything about Michael Jackson after his passing, and like you, watched youtube, his interviews starting from the 70's and the books you mentioned. Your posting expresses the same sentiment and feelings I have. I thank you for that.

You are pulling the words right out of my soul. I, simply put, LOVE Michael Jackson. With all of my soul. He inspired that...he said that he was born to a mission, and he stuck true to it. No matter what. I thank you, deeply, for your words. They mean so much...and help me tremendously. It is so hard just letting go and letting him have his peace. I am saddened beyond words. There is an empty void in my heart that I know will never be filled, now that he has gone. But, listening to his music, watching him HAPPY in footage helps. He was the Greatest Gift I've every received. The love he has inspired in me, it is awesome. I watch fans receiving the gift of his hug, and I cry. Because I can feel their immense joy and having just this small thing from him. He was so touched, he tried to comfort those weeping...he'd touch their face, touch their heads, even kiss them upon occasion. Just watching...I can live through their greatest moment. He had that something magnetic. To reach inside of you and just make you FEEL. There will NEVER be another Michael Jackson. He was our angel here on earth...The Messenger, bringing hope. Sadly, I feel the guilt of having failed him somehow. And, maybe that's why I feel so deeply? All I can say is he inspired me to love him. It's left for us to say that he mattered, he counted, and to carry his memory within us; keeping him alive that way. He cared so much. Listen to Earth Song, watch him in the video...see his torment for the earth? He was so troubled, he was BEGGING us, BEGGING us to open our eyes. Maybe with his passing, more eyes will be opened to the realities he was trying to make everyone see.

always spreading love, he'd say~ if you told him you loved him~
    I LOVE YOU MORE!

Do you ever find yourself wishing you could have given MJ a nice glass of warm milk and a bedtime story, maybe a backrub or a hot bath, to help him sleep so he would have had to take those horrible drugs that killed him? Middle aged people often have trouble sleeping. Your brain changes, and it revs like crazy at night. Add to that the pressures of having to be "on" for a performance, and one can start to feel quite desperate for sleep. Michael was not some kind of weird drug addict, he was a middle-aged person with enormous pressures on him, doing what he had to do to meet his financial obligations including supporting a large extended family. Like others, I'm new to this MJ love thing, and not sure what to make of it. My feelings for him are becoming more powerful every day, with every video I watch.

“This is it” movie’ October, 30, Michael's {“Dancing the Dream” his book’s title} in Heaven's kiddie section, his long planned $165.00 Opus’ will be released late this year {Read’ Rolling Stone’s Biography’ it state’s he lived a clean life {early Never-land} never drinking, smoking or taking drugs and rarely seen in the company of a woman} Michael was given the nickname stinky’ because he said stinky’ when working "never wanting to use swear word’s when discussing dislike for work’s in progress.Michael was day’s away from heading to Europe for an extended concert tour, having just’ attended his parents anniversary party. Michael wasn't about hatred' forgiving his Dad in Oxford Collage speech, all followers need to read/hear speech.
Lisa Presley had just married Michael and supported unconditional out of court settlement {the first accusation} at whatever the cost {the court transcripts stated’ Insurance company forced settlement} because’ she was also’ forcing Michael into drug rehab.
Until Michael’s body is laid to rest, I will keep suggesting Graceland not forest lawn and his Trust Co-managed or modeled alike Elvis’s and Never-land 100% restored and reopened’ best if by Kurt Cameron’s / Camp Firefly’ to continue Michael’s {20% of trust} dream of allowing ill’ Kid's and their families a vacation’ honoring Michael's peter-pan-ishness’ forever.
Michael donated 300 Million to charities many assume nearer to 500 Million, by contributing more than 20% of all his lifetime earning’s, acknowledged the most generous performer ever’ by Guinness Book notation {web search} “Dick Gregory’s “You Don’t Know the Real M.J.” ‘part 1 / 2 / 3 for understanding into Michael’s childishness, freakish oddities, lifetime suffering’s, loyalty’s, friendship’s, trust, genius, million’s and self decide about following or not following his Conspiracy Theory, but please’ remember the Man in the Mirror words for Michael's sake, because we Are the World.
Many star’s have their nose’s reconstructed and many have had their face damaged from surgery, but’ Michael had traveled oversea, arrived in town, and hid-out for day’s in his hotel room’ forcing concerned fans to gather outside calling’ for him to appear {even in America, his whereabouts was the Top New's of the hour} unimaginably’ his nose reconstruction’ had caved in’ a few day’s prior, that’s when confused Michael suspended his son blanket’ from balcony, for all to see he was OK, and his children were OK.
Just attempt to imagine, Michael pain' knowing his children to see and understood living with Michael disfigured, ponder the possible embarrassment from press if the paparazzi published photographs of prosthesis dislodged while rehearsing or out in public, or of press publishing photographs of prosthesis dislodged while dancing onstage live.
In my mind's eye; George Harrison's "while my guitar gently weeps" best captures the essence of our guilt for ignoring Michael Jackson's tear's, when someone in the crowd yelled "we love you to Michael" big Smile' and "I love you more!

    Harrison
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
    While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
    Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you how to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
    They bought and sold you.

I look at the world and I notice it's turning
    While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
    Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know how you were diverted
    You were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
    No one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
    While my guitar gently weeps
    Look at you all...
    Still my guitar gently weeps

My order for "Dancing..." was processed and then I received an e-mail from Amazon uk that they were refunding the total to my credit card.., which means that I am not getting the book. Somehow I wasn't surprised, when the same thing cost $300 in U.S.

Anyway, I noticed that I can pre-order "The Moonwalker" coming In Oct. on Amazon and I did that. This makes me think that "The Dancing..." will not be reprinted, and if so, I will have to find another way to get to the book. I will check with our local library and see if they have it, and if not, perhaps from another library. Got to try my best cause his poems are so delightful and beautiful and touching...,

“This is it” movie’ October, 30 and Michael’s long planned $165.00 Opus’ will be released late this year, Please read and post to; CELEBRITY SCALES: Michael the Wounded Messenger!.

Why did Judge appoint Michael’s children, only’ one attorney representing their best interest, instead of having three separate attorney’s.

Michael’s Mom petition’ is asking Judge about contesting un-notarized Will’s validity, was Michael’s previous Will’ witnessed by third party notary, understanding children’s name’s are wrong on this Will, then’ if Will is invalidated {jailing trustee’s} will Michael’s children each split 33%, or will Government claim Million’s of the Million’s.

Michael’s Mom is thinking Wrongful Death lawsuit’ to force Dr. Murray’s arrest, for allowing Michael’s breathing tube to become dislodged causing Oxygen starvation, can Wrongful Death Trial be docketed, before Manslaughter is charged, assuming will’s contested.

Michael owned the rights to his own music' plus some of the Beatles music and much more. Michael said he made Sony publishing Billion’s “yes Billion’s” of dollar’s, Sony paid Michael $95 Million in deal that gave Michael 50% of Sony Publishing, Michael’s trust now owns 50% of Sony publishing and over 50% of Sony’s publishing library, Michael was about to buy Motown’s library.

Michael’s estate will easily accumulate well over 100 million in 2009 from music alone, theirs way more unpublished music than Michael already published, we will have new releases for year’s and year’s to come, this is not about the Jackson family getting Michael’s dollars, Michael’s Mom share of the Trust can forever support and cosign all the Jackson’s wants and need’s as long as she survives, long enough, because’ Estate has more accumulative value than many Countries, and Michael himself said Music is forever.

Elvis Presley made 55 Million last Year, 32 Years after his death, often’ dancers/workers use upper’s to maintain pace then sleep becomes problematic.

Michael was day’s away from heading to Europe for an extended concert tour, having just’ attended his parents anniversary party,

Many star’s have their nose’s reconstructed and many have had their face damaged from surgery, but’ Michael had traveled oversea, arrived in town, and hid-out for day’s in his hotel room’ forcing concerned fans to gather outside calling’ for him to appear, unimaginably’ his nose reconstruction’ had caved in’ a few day’s prior, that’s when confused Michael suspended his son blanket’ from balcony, for all to see he was ok, and his children were ok, just try to imagine what Michael’s children must have seen and understood living with Michael disfigured, ponder the possible embarrassment from press if the paparazzi published photographs of prosthesis dislodged while rehearsing or out in public, or of press publishing photographs of prosthesis dislodged while dancing onstage live.

Michael said on phone to nurse, half of his body was hot’ and half of his body was cold’ the anesthetic must be refrigerated’ once unsealed or it fester’s and some lot’s were recalled, but’ nevertheless Dr. Murray grossly neglected his patient’s care by abandonment, then’ made phone calls, claimed warm body, week pulse, cpr on bed, with one hand behind back, before disappearing for day’s after cranking the all the heat up, failure to arrest’ warrant’s refusal to believe autopsy’ justification, I think police got mad a Michael for singing about unreported paternity suit with Billy Jean’ … … … King.

Michael was Also’ famous for requiring Confidentiality Agreement acceptance {wish I had a copy} wonder’ if police signed Confidentiality Agreement before inspecting Michael’s privates and if so’ whether that reason’s the autopsy’s delay, so many reprint’s, or if Confidentiality Agreement impacted final Autopsy report.

If Michael’s autopsy reveals child abuse, will the length of his Vocal cords be measured, and if short will children be removed from Jackson’s.

The same fly-by night Pharmacy Dr. Murray used for supplying Michael’s Anesthesia, was implicated for selling Steroid’s to Wrestler’s, Sport pro’s, firemen, school kids and Chris Benoit’ received no substantial repercussions, somehow their doors were not padlocked last week.

Michael’s followers in 1998 & 2003 attempted Nobel Peace Prize without avail, and now are rightfully requesting a 2009 “precedent setting Posthumous award” {over 1/3 of petition’s needed signatures’ so far} but award is for those still living, not for Posthumous/after death, the Nobel committee’s rules are bent already {claiming’ spirit of Nobel’s Will reasoning} and two had died after award, but’ before award ceremony.

I myself believe Michael took pill’s/med’s primarily for stamina, sleep, pain and suffering’ not enjoyment, although’ Lisa did push him into rehab {proving some abuse resulted} but’ we all say’ having the oxygen tank’s, and Med’s, in the home, around the children, is very problematic. Anesthetic can be given to a superstar at home, in bedroom, with the proper equipment’ and the proper amount of personnel’ safely {a three or more person job, with E.K.G. +} recreational drug abuse never caused Michael’s death.

Michael wasn't about hatred' forgiving his Dad in Oxford Collage speech’ all followers need to read/hear his speech about forgiving.

Michael picked Dr. Murray, earlier Dr Murray claimed AEG never paid him’ for his Two Months of service to Michael, and AEG claimed contract with Dr. Murray was bothersome, but’ acceptable, and payment to Dr. Murray had been, only’ awaiting Michael’s signature. AEG paid rent at mansion and at 8/17/2009 press conference, AEG claimed to have now paid Dr. Murray, why would AEG pay Dr. Murray the $15,000.00 per Month without contract, when he admitted abandoning patent under anesthesia.

Hatred for Michael’s unjustified, Michael said wrong things and was childlike, never’ did he act the criminal as accused, inexcusably Court accepted false accusation’s as merit’s for formal trial, from his Never-land employee’s 1993 {Husband & Wife} sleeping with boy’s false accusation scandal {their son} later flood-gating more frivolous lawsuit’s, understand’ Lisa Presley had just married Michael and supported unconditional out of court settlement at whatever the cost {the court transcripts stated’ Insurance company forced 1993 settlement} with Lisa forcing Michael into drug rehab at the same time, the similar’ next’ failed lawsuit hired the same legal team, Michael was later expelled from Never-land for not providing his overpaid employee’s health Insurance, forcing Michael to default his Homestead in disgust, money for payment’s was never an issue with Michael, he’d borrow today pay-back tomorrow.

Their was no excuse for failing to ever improve the five mile road to Never-land {never met highway standard’s} that handicapped, disabled and critically ill children had to travel, it’s assumed that Michael donated around 300 Million's to charities’ by contributing over 20% of all his lifetime earning’s, acknowledged the most generous performer ever’ by Guinness Book notation.

Liza Minnelli’s all hell breaking lose statement, about’ when Autopsy’s released, means theirs a story that must be told’ no matter what.

I watched Michael’s friend, comedian “Dick Gregory’s very interesting video “You Don’t Know the Real M.J.” ‘part 1 / 2 / 3 to better understand Michael’s childishness, freakish oddities, lifetime suffering’s, loyalty’s, friendship’s, trust, genius, million’s, without agreeing to the Conspiracy Theory he story-lines, myself, but please’ remember the Man in the Mirror words for Michael's sake, because we Are the World’ and not many in music or entertainment, will ever stand supporting the Jackson family.

Best case is; Michael’s body laid to rest at Graceland not forest lawn {birthday’s ok fine} and his Trust Co-managed or modeled alike Elvis’s, then’ Never-land 100% restored and reopened’ best if by’ Kurt Cameron’s / Camp Firefly’ {Michael’s trust can easily buy the adjoining road and near-by town’s to quiet the few neighborhood protester’s, if need be} to continue Michael’s {20% of trust} {“Dancing the Dream” his book’s title} allowing ill’ Kid's and their families a vacation’ honoring Michael's peter-pan-ishness’ forever.

The best article on Michael Jackson that I have seen in the past two months. Thank you for having the courage to say the truth instead of hiding behind the media hype. It seems as though the greatness of MJ is always buried by the eccentricies. For some reason it is easier to see the villain than the hero humanitarian that is his reality. How hard it must have been to be Michael Jackson.

    He Knew.

Years ago Michael and I were having a deep conversation about life in general.

I can't recall the exact subject matter but he may have been questioning me about the circumstances of my Fathers Death.

At some point he paused, he stared at me very intensely and he stated with an almost calm certainty, "I am afraid that I am going to end up like him, the way he did."

I promptly tried to deter him from the idea, at which point he just shrugged his shoulders and nodded almost matter of fact as if to let me know, he knew what he knew and that was kind of that.

14 years later I am sitting here watching on the news an ambulance leaves the driveway of his home, the big gates, the crowds outside the gates, the coverage, the crowds outside the hospital, the Cause of death and what may have led up to it and the memory of this conversation hit me, as did the unstoppable tears.

A predicted ending by him, by loved ones and by me, but what I didn't predict was how much it was going to hurt when it finally happened.

The person I failed to help is being transferred right now to the LA County Coroners office for his Autopsy.

All of my indifference and detachment that I worked so hard to achieve over the years has just gone into the bowels of hell and right now I am gutted.

I am going to say now what I have never said before because I want the truth out there for once.

Our relationship was not "a sham" as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a "Normal life" found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part. Nonetheless, I do believe he loved me as much as he could love anyone and I loved him very much.

I wanted to "save him" I wanted to save him from the inevitable which is what has just happened.

His family and his loved ones also wanted to save him from this as well but didn't know how and this was 14 years ago. We all worried that this would be the outcome then.

At that time, In trying to save him, I almost lost myself.

He was an incredibly dynamic force and power that was not to be underestimated.

When he used it for something good, It was the best and when he used it for something bad, It was really, REALLY bad.

Mediocrity was not a concept that would even for a second enter Michael Jackson's being or actions.

I became very ill and emotionally/ spiritually exhausted in my quest to save him from certain self-destructive behavior and from the awful vampires and leeches he would always manage to magnetize around him.

I was in over my head while trying.

I had my children to care for, I had to make a decision.

The hardest decision I have ever had to make, which was to walk away and let his fate have him, even though I desperately loved him and tried to stop or reverse it somehow.

After the Divorce, I spent a few years obsessing about him and what I could have done different, in regret.

Then I spent some angry years at the whole situation.

At some point, I truly became Indifferent, until now.

As I sit here overwhelmed with sadness, reflection and confusion at what was my biggest failure to date, watching on the news almost play by play The exact Scenario I saw happen on August 16th, 1977 happening again right now with Michael (A sight I never wanted to see again) just as he predicted, I am truly, truly gutted.

Any ill experience or words I have felt towards him in the past has just died inside of me along with him.

He was an amazing person and I am lucky to have gotten as close to him as I did and to have had the many experiences and years that we had together.

I desperately hope that he can be relieved from his pain, pressure and turmoil now.

He deserves to be free from all of that and I hope he is in a better place or will be.

I also hope that anyone else who feels they have failed to help him can be set free because he hopefully finally is.

The World is in shock but somehow he knew exactly how his fate would be played out some day more than anyone else knew, and he was right.

I really needed to say this right now, thanks for listening.

    Jo-Jo,

    I'm glad you posted this.

I stumbled onto Lisa Marie's powerful blog last month and I wasn't prepared for her words, or the river of tears that came after I read it. I was inconsolable for about an hour afterward for a lot of reasons.
All I will say is, I KNEW exactly what she was talking about. Her blog actually helped me...more than she'll ever know.

And that's all I have to say about that.

    Hi, SoCalGal,

Thank you for the information about the book "Dancing...". Someone mentioned to check Michael's poems on Healtheworldfoundation.org and I read them all. I was simply astounded by his beautiful spirit and poems, I had no idea how deep and poetic he was..., and I enjoyed them so much. I wanted to buy the book, but it was too expensive and I hoped that the book would be reprinted as I hear "The Moonwalker" would be in Oct. Ghita, thanks also for the link, I read all the poems again, and I am encouraged that the actual book contains more poems which I can't wait to read. I have checked all the links recommended here and enjoyed them all, well except one about his final years which contained lots of lies. The more I learn about Michael, the more respect I have for him..., He sure was one of a kind, thanks Michael for all the joys you have given us,

Wonderfully written. These are my sentiment almost verbatum. I can rest in knowing that Michael (in my belief) was indeed a messenger. When God sends His messengers, like MLK, they come for a season, they suffer and they must return home. Such was the case with Michael Joe Jackson. For more writing like this, check out he book, Conspiracy. It speaks about how the media was hell-bent on destroying Michael's life. Mindblowing I tell you! This summer has been life changing for me. MJ's death has inspired me to make my art again. I always thought like MJ about my talent. That is was a gift from God. I was also a child prodigy, but my parents did not push me like MJ's dad. My mom is a lot like Katherine, very shy and quiet. My dad's personality is similar to Joe's, but he did not have the interest in pushing my success in art. I still knew from an early age that art was my calling. There was nothing else. My school was so poor, there were no art classes. I had a burning desire to go to college for art. I will never forget my grandmother telling my parents that they were "wasting their money (on college) because THEY would never get anything out of it." My mom replied in a soft, low voice, "I'm not doing it for me." So I went four years and graduated with a degree in art education. In fact, I was the first in my family to graduate from college. After that, I started doing what everyone expected, I came home, got a job, got married, had children. With all the responsibilities, each day my creativity was slowly dying and the childlike qualities I loved about myself slowly faded away. Then my son died. It was like I fell into a dark, black hole where no one could reach me. This is where MJ and I handled things differently, I did not turn to prescription drugs. My pain was mental not physical. God gave me another child. A beautiful girl. This did not ease my depression, but the new responsibilities took my mind off my son sometimes. I always tried to hide my sadness from my family to be strong, especially from my daughter. I wanted her to grow up with a happy life. My love of art was always there deep inside. Once in a while, I would draw something to keep my skills sharp, but it was copying from the real world, not inspired from my soul. There's a difference. That all changed on June 25, 2009. I heard the news on the radio and was in shock. I remember thinking, "He can't be dead. This is not real." I watched the news and looked at his videos on the internet. I started to really listen to the words in his songs, especially "Earth Song." Then, I understood that he was writing from his soul. That is art in its truest form, self-expression. At that moment, I understood that my art can help me get all my pent up feelings out. I have began to draw again. So MJ didn't really die, his influence lives on in me and all the other people who he has inspired.

RIP Michael Jackson. It's never too late to say thank you for giving us hope. Somehow I think you will know.

Martin Bashir, the entire tabloid media, plus the scheming/greedy/extortionist parents are all responsible for Jackson's untimely death, tortured life and the lynching of an innocent ,kind and compassionate man!

My only consolation is that Michael underwent the same situation as Christ, rejected and ridiculed by this cruel, heartless and greedy world!

"My only consolation is that Michael underwent the same situation as Christ, rejected and ridiculed by this cruel, heartless and greedy world!"

Well... that's not concolation to me. It just makes me sad, I couldn't do anything to help. But then I'm not believing in any kind of religion, maybe I just see it with different eyes.

I just got my hands on a copy of "Dancing the Dream" by Michael Jackson. You guys should read it, it gives such a personal insight in the man himself, just made me cry though I've never had the pleasure to meet him. There's so much in there which reflects myselft. I'm sure everyone can learn from this.

Thank you, Matt. Your eloquence is inspired.

Michael carried so much hope and light for the world. Through his beautiful voice, amazing dance, and tireless devotion to others, God worked miracles through Michael Jackson.

However, his neglected childhood would become the catalyst to multi faceted complexities that would combust in a lifetime of struggle. Many never realized and do not take the time to understand that Michael was truly a child at heart. Michael never experienced a childhood. He never enjoyed the years that would teach him the many things he would later need in life. And by his own admission, he over compensated for it. While he was gifted, intelligent, and well read, these lost formative years deprived him of insight into boundaries, intimacy, love, choices, and the difference between intelligence and common sense. When Michael Jackson was entering his 20s, his Pop star was on the rise. While on one side, Michael Jackson stood as a “once in forever” genius entertainer and businessman, Michael stood on the other as a boy destitute of significant childhood experiences that would balance his life. Perhaps this was God’s plan. Someone once said to me, “The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you.”

To the “collective”; to the “media” I ask, where was our love; our compassion?

Michael once pleaded in the autobiographical lyrics of “Childhood”, “Before you judge me, try hard to love me.” Jesus said, “Do not judge, lest ye be judged.” The dichotomy of Michael Jackson was clearly a complex mix of brilliant superstardom that rose so high, you had to look down to see heaven and a journey so low you were blinded by the depths of his despair. It is through his perfection and his flaws that we have glimpsed ourselves; that we have witnessed the human condition.

The media brutalized a lovely human being. Often misunderstood, Michael would spend a lifetime facing unyielding pressures and scrutiny while he tried to live a balance between the professional and the personal, always attempting to overcome the boundaries between the surreal and the real. Until his death, he searched for truth, and through his inner child, I am convinced that God called him home.

Look at this verse - Matthew 18:2 - 3 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

What if the world simply believed that verse? What if that were the only thing Jesus spoke during His three year ministry, and our salvation depended completely on that verse? Would it be enough to convince you? Could you do it – could you become as a child again? Of course it’s not the only thing He said but I think it is one of the most important things and He wouldn’t have said it were it not true.

Michael loved children. He always felt that every child reflected the face of God. God blessed Michael Jackson with genius talent and Christ filled compassion that transcended all barriers. For nearly 50 years, his life's purpose would be a source of healing and love in every country on the planet.

I encourage anyone who would seek to defile this messenger to take a long look at the “man in the mirror,” then take a peek at Michael Jackson's legacy...the words he shared through his lyrics; that beautiful voice; his amazing dance. He had the heart of a child, the patience of Job, and the drive of a warrior. Michael Jackson is worthy of our respect. He was on the front lines every day fighting for the sake of others who could not help themselves. He used his blessings to create a magical place for kids and the kid at heart to visit…to escape the torments of life, even if just for a short while. He used his musical influence to heal the planet and help special needs, at risk, and sick children across the globe. Throughout his life, he contributed $300 Million (some sources say $500 Million) to worldwide charities, forever relentless in his fight to help others.

I am sick and tired of hearing and reading that Michael Jackson should not be celebrated as a hero. Michael Jackson is EXACTLY the kind of hero we should be celebrating. We should celebrate the man who gave us everything he had to give, despite horrific abuse, a neglected childhood, lupus, skin disorders, chronic pain from relentless physical exertion, and unimaginable stress he would have to endure at the hands of those who would seek to destroy him.

Though he was an idiosyncratic, flawed man, this gentle soul could never cause harm. In the end, he would not be able to escape the effects of life's personal torment. He deserves our respect; our love; our compassion. He made the world a better place.

God blessed Michael with inimitable gifts. His light shone because of Jesus. Those of us who know the truth, we hurt because we sense the loss of that light. But truly, Michael's spirit has finally discovered peace and rest. The miracle is that Jesus continues to do His work through Michael even now, after his death. Many are now understanding what this man did for the world through God's gifts.

The light will continue to shine, and Michael will continue to smile.

I agree Michael's mother was much less than a tigress and I remember very well his sister La Toya calling him a criminal during the time of the allegations against him. He spoke about forgiving his father in his Oxford speech. It's easy to say he should have done this or that when nobody walked in his shoes for a minute.

Michael always inspired me to be a better person regardless his so called eccentricities.
At the end of the day I only care about his wonderful work and soul. May he find that special place with no sorrow he had always looked for.

I think at the heart of the media's hatred of Michael was their deep belief that Michael purposely changed his skin color. He was repeatedly asked this question by many even though he said that he had vitiligo. He was also asked about his plastic surgeries even by interviewers who themselves had many surgeries, which is so preposterous. In the end, I think the plastic surgery questions were a masked question about his skin color change. They couldn't prove him lying about vitiligo, so they went after plastic surgeries. How nasty that was, the media always invented ways to hurt Michael. It was one against thousands who all conspired to bury him 6 foot underground by any means.

However, now that Dr. Kline came out and said that Michael had indeed vitiligo in detail, and he is a credible doctor, I hope the media will shed their prejudice and make up for all the wrongs they have done to Michael. Personally, I too was unsure about Michael's vitiligo until I heard from the doctor, and I am glad that he came out about this. I saw the interview of Spike Lee and Katie Couric a few days after Michael's death, and Katie said "Michael bleached his skin". she didn't even qualify with "the rumor is..., or it is reported... or some believe..". and Spike sort of laughed it off without any argument. He worked with Michael on a music video, and even he didn't believe that Michael had vitiligo.

I think Michael didn't elaborate or tried his best to prove that he had vitiligo cause it was too painful for him to talk about . You can see how much whiter he became as he aged, and in addition, he was very allergic to the sun light, and he must have suffered from the effects of this on his skin. We only talk about our deepest pain to a sympathetic audience, and Michael knew that vitiligo was so rare, he didn't think the public would take his words, so why bare his soul ? If he showed his skin blotches, people would say he did it with chemical himself.

My deepest pain is not that he died, but rather he was stoned to death by the mob. When people truly believe that he suffered deep pain from vitiligo, then I am hopeful that their perception of him will change and they will look at his words and work at the face value cause he was always what he said that he was. In spite of all the stones thrown at him, he remained the same loving person which is both astonishing and inspiring..,

Michael's mom probably apologized him and tried her best to make up for the abuse, and he probably forgave her. ( although I don't think he got much sympathy for the abuse from the public, either. No matter what, he never could get any sympathy at all, which is just so painful to see ). He left 40 % of his estate to her whereas his each child gets only 13%. The mom's share will probably go to her other children, and this way Michael was a good son, good father, good brother and good uncle. It is unusual to leave such a large portion to an old parent , but Michael was unusual in many ways, he was very different and he was too beautiful...
  • SoCalGal
The whole story needs to be re-written, in my opinion. Maybe we could convince Matt Semino to consider writing a screenplay--"Michael Jackson--Death by Media"--Ang Lee directing. Media play a significant role in society by providing a wide range of information in a variety of ways. They strongly influence community attitudes, beliefs and behavior, and play a vital role in politics, economics and social practice. In Michael's case, his inadequate handling of the media was his undoing.

    Hi peonylover3 -

I, too, am sort of surprised how no one believes that he had vitiligo. I wish he had been more explicit abt his disease when he was alive. I, too, saw that Slike Lee interview and was surprised at how smoothly that bleaching statement rolled off of Katie Couric's lips..and I consider her to be a stand-up type of journalist. The media today is not composed of journalists but entertainers who are trying to make money and they rush from one topic to another, for profit. Anything about Michael was big money.

Aphrodite Jones book is great to read. She reveals Bashir's plan to make millions for himself from Michael. She notes how the media did not cover the trial in a balanced and ethical way. She notes that much was to be gained by many parties if Michael Jackson went to jail. The media had billions to make if he went to jail abt stories of his life in jail, and Sony had could gain something as well if Michael went to jail, as he couldn't protect his music catalog from there. Jones states that the DA had alot to gain, too, for making a name for himself for a celebrity conviction. Jones states that he had a victory party before the jury's verdict came back. Jones states a huge amount of the taxpayers' money was spent on the trial, more than on a death penalty trial, hired numerous experts, traveled to other countries, sent seventy sheriffs to search Neverland, as if there was an army bunkered there. I thought California was in fiscal trouble.

Anyway, Aphrodite's book is great. Read it. I believe there are elements of the wounded messenger in the Michael Jackson story, but I think old-fashioned pure greed and ambition has alot to do with the MJ story.

and how about going to U Tube and searching for Aphrodite Jones and Tom Mesereaux and watching their interview from 2007....

it is shocking....Aphrodite a New York Times best sellign author was told flat out by her publishing connections that they could not print anything pro-Jackson.....?????

why is that? I think it is bigotry and profit....
  • pusherswithdegrees
Hi Kathy, do you have a link for Jones interview? The more I learn about MJ the more I begin to believe there really was a conspiracy by some very powerful people to squash him and his message of peace and love.

And no I'm not in the medical profession per se but I went out with a doctor who owned a clinic with other docs and a pharmacist and I was baffled to learn how unprofessionel many of them can be. The pharmacist was popping pills all day and the docs were told what drugs to prescribe many times because it was the deal of the month or the pharmacist had an overstock of certain drugs. I also did an internship in a medical university as a veterinary tech and was traumatized watching the medical students torturing animals for pure evil.

I did end up marrying a hypnotherapist who could heal all kind of chronic ailments that the doctors had given up on, by regressing to the cause of trauma and perform miracles for these clients without hurting any animals or prescribing addictive drugs.

Here's a link where you can check a little video I made to promote his work. (click on Windows Media)

    Thanks for your interest,

PS: I'm still very mad at Michael's death, it could've been avoided.

    Thanks Kathy.

And here's the link for that new DVD with Tom Mesereaux by Larry Nimmer. It proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that Michael was framed.

When people truly believe that he suffered deep pain from vitiligo, then I am hopeful that their perception of him will change and they will look at his words and work at the face value cause he was always what he said that he was.

Well... I never cared what turned him white and actually though I was not interested in his work for a long time I just saw the human who obviously wasn't happy at all. I felt for him and always hoped he'd have at least someone who helps. When I finally understood I wished I could help. When I heard vitiligo for the first time I googled it and found out what it is and believed him rather than the media. But then again, I know what a mob can do to you with false stories that are just designed to destroy a true picture of yourself.

And I think it's noone's business who's getting how much and wether or not he forgave his mother or maybe even his father. I just hope he found his peace with his childhood which certainly wasn't what I call a nice childhood.

I cant get this article outta my mind since i read it last night. Something in me is putting all the information i have about Michael to make a conclusion but somehow i cant lay my finger on it..
Because i agree with everything that is written here so beautiful yet i cant forget how Michael was human like us all and yes he did live a life only a few of us do but if it comes down to the basic human "rules" i keep thinking they must have count also for Michael..

Is it really us mankind to blame who were blind and def to the messenger Michael? Or did Michael somehow something wrong in spreading his messages? Im just thinking about this all not making a judgement. Because if you wanna educate mankind about spreading light and love over the world aint it neccessary that the messenger himself/herself first show how it works? Its like a 400 pound man or woman tries to teach us how to eat and exercise healthy, wouldnt we all think the same? why is it you know so well but dont'do it yourself? Didnt we all saw and felt from early on how unhappy and lonely Michael was? That doesnt make the message less important but to bring it over on mankind it might be nessacary you first show it on yourself? Yes he was one of the biggest humanitary humans of mankind and yes he gave away a world record of money to innocent victims but trouhg all of that he forgot himself and aint that just the thing you have to do first to acchieve the goal? just thoughts of mine i dont make a judgement here Somehow i cant get peace with the idea he was only a victim of it all, not to search for something negative to find a stick to hurt Michael, but just from a point of view he was just human like us all, there must have been ways for him to done it diffrently and to prevend himself for much pain and misunderstandings.

Yes media is as quilty as hell for hunting him down making him a freak he never was, but wasnt the way Michael cope with it maybe not the right way? Like mankind never saw an entertainer that gifted, we also never saw a black man getting white in front of the camera's either. mankind just didnt know how to handle it, nobody ever heard of vittiligo and yes its wrong to immediatly attack Michael accusing wanting to be white but ignorance often leads to negativity. The first time he ever spoke about it was on Oprah back in 1993 but not in a strong educating way. It was something he couldnt control he said, what if he on that moment would have had a stronger backbone and would have said, listen im gonna show you the many pictures that are been out already with lots of dots on my skin so you can see where it all began and teaches us more stronger and more confirming what was going on. Its just some of the things the world needed to understand him. Something in me is asking the same question over and over again, what if Michael would have defend himself more open and stronger? Doesnt it count for us all when we are stuck in being or feeling a victim it keeps happening to ourselfs over and over again?

And isnt it well known addiction how understandable it maybe is he got addicted the ultimate mental and phychical murder of yourself? Its well known that addiction stops the grow of the soul, it stops all progress of developing of the soul and lifelessions, addiction itself becomes the spin where the rest of life will be built around, that addiction gave away all the power he had about himself away to the enablers and to open all the gates to people who wanna hurt him. That addiction was the beginning of the end and sadly enough there's only one man responsible, Michael himself, again how understandable it might is, from there he gave away all the options to a better life, that count for all of us if we get addicted

Putting all my thoughts together you get at one hand the Michael how he was written in this article but at the other hand he made the same mistakes, the same wrong choices and had to endure the same responsibilities of those wrongs just like we all have to do, its frustrating to make a clear conclusion cuz big souls never ever forget to love themselve first, thats the thing im struggling about.

English is not my main language im sorry if i made mistakes, i tried the best i could to write it all down.It are just thoughts of me, i dont make any judgements at all, i truly hopes Michael finally founds his peace and will be surrounded with love till infinity and those who ever hurted him will see it back i truly believe in karma
  • Emma
    Dear Ghita,

You say "big souls never ever forget to love themselves first". We should not forget, that he was working in the entertainment business, not as a priest, not as a missionary worker. I think in entertainment business you are not aloud to be yourself, because you have to entertain. Everybody. Whatever the colour of the skin, whatever the religion, whatever the wealth and well being, whatever the sexual orientation. I am sure HE WAS A FREE SPIRIT forced to be another person than he really felt to be. That is the price of the fame in this business. This is what really makes Michael Jackson that very unique cultural icon for our society as was pointed out in this article.

    Best wishes,
    Emma
  • Ghita
    Dear Emma,

I so agree with you its just all so confusing to me if i read everywhere that he was only a victim of it all, like he was powerless to his own life, like there was never ever a point for him to make a change for himself so he could finally find some of that peace and happiness he always searched for and wanted. And again not to keep searchin and searchin to blame it on Michael or anything negative,, but really from that point of view he was human like us all and there must have been ways for him to do it diffrently and i think we really underestimate the addiction, i really think a great part of mankind is very uneducated about the concequences what an addiction causes, i believe his addiction became the fight of his life behind the scenes, he had 3 gorgeous children, he must have delt with a lot of quilt torch them, additction is often seen as something people are too blame for while its an disease like Deeprak Chopra explained on Larry King, i somehow believe if he wouldnt have become addicted he would have made it, he really would have found ways to heal lot of his wounds. If he would have had the right therapy he eventually would have known childhood can never be done again he tried and tried for so many years to catch up but always stayed unhappy for the simple fact you just cant catch in on a childhood
But yes it easy now to say he should have done this and that, we werent in his shoes and most important is that he was a beautiful human inside and out i so agree, a lot of harm is done to him but i truly think he himself was his only true enemy and that caused him his life nothing else, nobody else, im sorry but thats what i believe.
this arcticle is so beautiful written but i cant go with it that he was a messenger where mankind didnt listen too, but english is not my main language maybe i didnt understand it clearly, im gonna read it again, thanks for responding, i wouldnt respond no more but here i am again doing it lol, what an impact for someone you didnt really know

    best wishes

Ghita, you don't read "everywhere" that he was a victim. MJ Haters are out in full force on the Internet these days. Some are wolves in sheep's clothing. It's not a matter of glossing over Michael's faults/weaknesses. It's a matter of honoring him in death by not revisiting his flaws--even for the sake of righteous rebuttal.

All his life, day in and day out, Michael was victimized--yes, victimized--by wild exaggeration and outright malicious lies. Trying now to separate truth from fiction, when he's not here to defend himself, ESPECIALLY when those doing the separating are supposed to be true fans, seems antithetical to love.

When you love someone and he dies, it ceases to matter that he actually did this or he failed to do that. All that matters at this point is that he lived a life that inspired your love and admiration and that you love and admire him still.

This is just my opinion, of course, but when I see so called fans hashing over and over again the same old tired allegations and dissecting his motivations, I despair that Michael will EVER find the peace he deserves.

I'm not going to qualify my love and admiration by saying, "He may have made some poor choices BUT I'm a fan forever." There are no more buts. Buts are for detractors and there will always be some of those. My job as Michael's admirer is to speak ONLY that which is true and lovely and to see him through the prism of unconditional love--something, apparently, he didn't get from those whose job it was to provide it (parents).

I'm with Emma--I've stopped decoding. Now I'd like to decode a few "journalists" and ask them what happened to their journalistic integrity. Very insightful: He is a victim of his own life nurtured by the VALUES of our society. If only Michael had leaned forward, looked Diane Sawyer straight in the eyes and said, "I hear a lot of JUDGMENT coming from you, Diane. Would you care to rephrase the question?"
  • Ghita
    Hello SoCalGal

Well i didnt see MJ haters that much gladly, maybe a few but comparing to the millions of fans who are mourning i dont think you can mention them or take serious at least not to me
Its a good thing fans talk to eichother and share their opinion cause so many are still struggling with it, i dont think people are pointing out his flaws or weaknesses to attack Michael but just to let thoughts flow and maybe it will help to make closure to all the confusion, at the very end love and positivity always win and in case of Michael i believe that will happen too, so he will get his rest, he became 50 years old and for 45 years he was in the spotlight, so talking about him only six weeks later aint that weird, we need this time to accept he's gone it wont last forever, one day the good and lovable things he left behind will only be remembered and people who did Michael harm will be left behind with karma, i said before that one of my thoughts is that if only Michael would have defend himsel in a more stronger way maybe things would have been gone diffrently i dunno, i understand your respond but looking at the internet and all of the thousands of thousands convo's about Michael still going on its a clear sign lots of us still needs time to talk about it, it will end dont worry thats what i believe..

    Best wishes,
    Ghita
  • SoCalGal
Speaking for myself as a mere fan, I'd have closure--if you can call it that for someone I've never met--much faster if the media perps who contributed to his demise would shut up. It's absolutely galling that Michael Bashir and Diane Sawyer would be the ones to say anything! about Michael at this time. I'd like to scratch both their eyes out. Michael hired a crew to film concurently with Bashir's hatchet piece. The result was aired by Maury Povich; you can find it on YouTube. Furthermore, two years ago another rebuttal was done by Larry Nimmer but did we see that on national TV? Nooooo... And why? Because the media is evil, plain and simple. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUAwwnwI85Y

The media think nothing of destroying someone better than they are. Their planned destruction of Michael Jackson was particularly effective because Michael didn't have the constitution to go for the jugular in return. Michael needs a PR rep ex mortis. How sick is that?! BTW, the NYT has announced the opening of the film, "This Is It," on October 30. Let's hope Bashir and Sawyer are banned from the screening.
  • Emma
:-) Ghita, I understand you perfectly, because I think many of us just can not stop decoding the enigma of the one of the most or rather the most ENIGMATIC PERSONALITY of our times.

Addiction is another story. Very important, however in my opinion it doesn't diminish his merits as a cultural icon.

I think he was very conscious about his choices and nobody claims here that he is just a victim of our society. He is a victim of his own life nurtured by the VALUES of our society.

This is my understanding of the above article.

    Cheers,
    Emma
  • betterlatethannever
Ghita, you do have a point. But I know what it's like to be isolated by others. You know, kids can be just as bad as the media. I had to live with that fact for over 9 years and finally understood one thing (and it took me about another 5 years to get that far for myself): If you are called a freak and people treat you bad this way you can as well take it as a compliment, a way to say "Hey, you've got something special which we'd all like to have, too, but we don't want to work for it." So now I'm quite proud if someone calls me "weird" or a "freak" because I know they are just jealous.

But I understand everyone, including Michael, who can't see it that way or who is just not strong enough to fight against this. 9 years were a long time for me, I don't know what 20 years would have done to me. I might have ended with addictions as well for not being able to fight more... And though you are right about enduring responsibilities for wrong choices... but if you personally make a mistake, does anyone care and write about it in thousands of magazines each inventing more details which were never true?

After all he was, like you said, human. Of course, if he had had someone to give him the right background that my family provided for me, he might have survived longer. Loneliness and an environment which always keeps picking on you just because you are there and have a talent others are jealous of (if they are honest) is a bad mixture. You always try to fight your lonliness first and end up with another defeat. If the media would have stopped invading his privacy after his last tour and just let him live his life, would he still be alive? I'm sure, he would.

So why did it work for me all those 9 years? Because I had a loving, caring, supporting family and fled into hobbies, including music to a big account indeed. I can't sing or compose, but I can play two instruments which took most of my time until I started to become really good with archery which saved my soul. I needed that combination of stuff I could do alone which was pure meditation. Might work for other human beings, too...

And I would have loved to see him prove everyone wrong who said he wouldn't make a single show in London without falling from stage!! (and I've heard that a lot)
  • Ghita
betterlatethannever thanks for responding, happy to read you find your way in life, i wish you all the luck

When i read the posts of everyone i agree almost with everything but the thing that bothers me is that i cant find peace in a total victim role for Michael, i truly cant, to simply say mankind have failed is just too easy, after all he was an adult man of 50 years old, yes childlike but parts of him were an adult period.
Somehow Michael got stuck in his pain and feeling a victim of it all. I saw a painted picture the other day of a global with Michael standing on top of it and thats how it was certainly in the 80's as you maybe know you can hardly put it into words how big he was back then, just unbelievable big and there are 2 sides to that in my opinion
One is you are the target of jeaulous people and evil media and everything you do will be exploit to the maximum but the other side is you have access to all the very best this earth has to offer.
Michael had access to everyone and everything what could have make his life better and there wouldnt have been one person who would turn him down i know for sure but somehow Michael didnt choose to do that, maybe emotional too crippled or just too damaged i dont know and yes Michael was a victim in many ways but like us all as long as you don't work hard to heal your wounds you stay the victim that people made of you thats what im thinking, and getting into an addiction was really the last thing he needed, i wouldnt dare to blame him for that cuz i didnt know his pain, but what i do know pain is ALWAYS what lays behind any addiction and the moment he got addicted every change on healing and progressing of his soul stopped there. Addiction is a negative energy what attracts negative people and negative situations like a snowball rolling down it will take more and more negativity to you
Its all so confusing, im gonna take distance for a while anyway, i grew up with his music and always felt such a connection to him and his death had a major impact on me like millions in the world but somehow i cant get grip on it all and maybe i dont have to, im gonna remember the good things like his music and his sweet soul but to say he was a new messias and mankind wasnt ready for him, no i cant find peace in that if you look at Oprah for an example, she does know how to reach people with almost the same messages, if she in one of her shows tells the world to get on a diet or to do anything the next day millions of people are following her, in my opinion thats because she practise what she preaches, she is very open about her pains and struggles and has a strong confedant spirit and thats what i meant if you wanna reach people you have to show it yourself first maybe to reach your goals, mankind always felt the loneliness and pains of Michael, i dunno again just thoughts of mine i hardly can get together, maybe in time things will fall into the right perspective
    Good Luck to everyone
  • betterlatethannever
Ghita, he didn't really have access to everyone and everything. Not really. You know, I was a good student at school (the reason why I had problems though I shared my knowledge). You should think I should have had access to friends, shouldn't you? I tell you what happened: Everyone who wanted to be my friend was stoned by the other kids until I was alone again. Additionally I knew they were telling lots of lies about me.

Now imagine what happens if you are at the top of the celebrity rankings. Do you think you have access to the most important thing: real and faithful loyal friends? Those people who you can trust with everything, who stop you when you are being stupid? You find people who play friend but when you really need them to fight for you they are gone because it's not good to fight for someone who is made the freak for media to have a topic to write about. They'd just destroy your image, too.

I think Michael tried to heal his wounds, his way, just remember Neverland. It's been one way to try getting back part of his childhood and finally living some of his dreams. But some wounds don't heal, especially not if other people go on picking on you for those things that hurt most. Sometimes vanishing into the unknown helps, I was glad when I saw my class for the very last time, after that I could find my way, no earlier. But he couldn't just disappear, everyone knew him too well. I can't even say what I would have done if I had ever had the pleasure to meet him in person. Probably I would just have said "Thank you and I do care, no matter what happens next." give him a hug and leave to give him the peace and privacy he wanted and needed.

And I agree, the messias status is a bit too much and certainly not reasonable for any human being, no matter how good they are. I can be a little difficult myself though if someone needs help I'm there helping without thinking about my own advantage. I wouldn't want anyone to make me a messias ;-)
  • SoCalGal
betterlatethannever wrote: but if you personally make a mistake, does anyone care and write about it in thousands of magazines each inventing more details which were never true?

I think this is key. It wasn't his fans who exaggerated his mistakes/faults; it was the tabloids and even mainstream media. How DARE Diane Sawyer opine incredulously on national television that his marriage to Lisa Maria was anything but genuine! The bitch--I hate her!! Her type of media scrutiny followed him everywhere he went. So...which came first, his eccentricities or the constant and unrelenting scrutiny and judgment of the press--which would make anyone a little nuts? I don't think you can name a single mega-gifted soul who has successfully navigated such torturous waters. And where was his mother during all this? What a wimp! I'll tell you, if Michael had been my son, Diane Sawyer would've wished she never met me. Katharine Jackson may be a wonderful woman but a mother tigress she wasn't. The first time Joe Jackson laid a hand on my children, he would've pulled back a bloody stump. Both his parents failed him miserably.

Only God and a person's subconscious mind know the real truth.

I wish Michael's death would expose to the world the grave dangers of prescripton meds and make a case for medical marijuana who is known for curing most chronic ailments. I was myself an insomniac who'd tried Valium,Ambient, Valerian,Melatonine and other sleeping aids to no avail till I started medical marijuana. A few drags before bed time and nighty night! No side effects and no drowsiness.

Michael needed mental help NOT prescription drugs. Hypnotherapists can take people off drugs of any kind and reversed the self-destructive program running at the SUBconscious level in just a few sessions.

ANY of MJ's doctors could've just look this up but they prefered making money and precribing dangerous addictive drugs.

Definition from the little blue book of psychosomatic disorders Heal Your Body by Louise Hay : (word for word)
Vitiligo: Feeling completely outside of things. Not belonging. Not one of the group.
Lupus: Giving up. Better to die than stand up for one's self. Anger and punishement.
Addictions: Running from the self. Fear. Not knowing how to love the self.

So many parents don't realise how much they're screwing up their kids by calling them names and telling them they're ugly and have a big nose or whatever.

Hmmm...speaking of magazines in the whole world, that gives me an idea. What are some of the magazines in the world equivalent to Time or Newsweek? Der Spiegel (Germany) is one. Does anyone know others? I'd like to send a letter to the editor and reference Matt's piece.

SoCalGal, I have only just finished conspiracy by aphrodite jones I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. I could not believe how it ever went to trial and how it was reported by the media was diabolical. It was very one sided. Tom Mesereau was excellent! It was dreadful that MJ had to be put through all that when at the end of the day he had only ever shown kindness to that family. It was greed, pure greed and never being satisfied with the kindness that MJ had shown them. It beggars belief that people can behave like it!
I haven't read redemption yet by geraldine hughes. Have you or anybody else read it?

I just saw this and the site has asked everyone to pass it on see below:

The attorney who successfully represented Michael Jackson during the 2005 trial spoke as part of a legal discussion panel back in 2005. He revealed he had witnesses ready to testify against Jordan Chandler if prosecutors had been able to convince him to testify.

These witnesses report that Chandler said Jackson never touched him and that he was angry at his father for being made to accuse Michael Jackson. Watch video clip below:
    (Nov 29 2005)

Mesereau also revealed Chandler went to court to get legally emancipated from his parents.

I just saw a suggestion by brancarocks and athena on a site for people to contact et about diane dimond and her possible removal. I thought you might like to see it.

    et.newsdesk@cbsparamount.com

Athena suggested this sample text that all are free to use. See below:

Please be advised that I will boycott your program as long as Diane Dimond is in your employ. After Michael Jackson died, I took it upon myself to read any and everything I could find, including Dimond's book, so as to reach my own conclusions as to his guilt or innocence. In the end, I was appalled at the flimsy case mounted by the Santa Barbara D.A., and fueled by irresponsible journalists such as Dimond. Michael Jackson's death does not speak to his weakness; it speaks to his humanity. No human could withstand such an onslaught of salacious, lurid gossip. Shame on Diane Dimond!
  • I don't watch any of these shows wish they would go off the air since most of the information is gossip..How sad for michael that he had to put up with all that..
  • SoCalGal
Thanks, Jan. To the suggested introduction, I added:

When you're able to take time off from sanctioning irresponsible journalism, perhaps you should read Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones.

    http://www.aphroditejones.com/books/Michael_Jac...

"As I made one of my last public comments on the case, I realized I had become one of the media bunch who had wrongly predetermined the outcome of the trial. Many people around me were so sure of Jackson’s guilt. Many reporters had slanted TV and radio coverage to suit the prosecution, and I was one of those folks who had followed that dangerous trend.” --Aphrodite Jones in Michael Jackson Conspiracy

Under the influence of media, the entire world has reached judgments about Jackson. The mainstream media report about him with an implicit judgment, while tabloid media write about him with an explicit judgment. In the face of this barrage of judgment, the resulting perceptions about Jackson have become aligned against him. It has become impossible for the public to reconcile its admiration for Jackson's genius musical and artistic talent with the harsh judgments against him. As a result of these seemingly irreconcilable views, it has become easier to ignore the good and focus on the bad.

For years now, we have been duped into believing that there has been only one side to this coin.

What emerges from Michael Jackson Conspiracy is an image of the vulnerability of the most powerful entertainer in the world. All the myths you have been lead to believe will be shattered. Everything you have come to know about Jackson will be upturned after you read Michael Jackson Conspiracy.

    Thank you ladies -

I have sent the email..I just recd Aphrodites book in the mail, and I am afraid to read it as I know I will be outraged all over again. How dare a DA use the responsibility of his office to mobilize the police and terrorize a member of the public.

MJ was such a bright, loving, caring person - his greatness is well described by you. Thankyou! I really hope the world will keep playing his music so that we will never stop receiving his message. More and more people are discovering his greatness. If they start playing his music in all troubled parts of the world, I'm sure we will all change to the better. Also, read his poems and reflections!!!!!!

SoCalGal, Thanks for the link it's brilliant! The insight you get of MJ is amazing by reading the experiences of these talented people who all have such wonderful stories to tell of their time with MJ. The effort he put into his albums and music was phenomenal. He treated people with such respect which can be rare these days. A great link. Thanks again!

Thank you , thank you and THANK YOU for writing this article. All the things you said seem so obvious and transparent from much of Michael's work, yet no one has written such a thoughtful, in-depth, and accurate portrayal of Michael Jackson. There are so many intelligent people out there, so I wonder why.., it must take more than just an intelligence, but perhaps a courage to say what you have said.., Nevertheless, the truth prevails, and I am hopeful that more people will come to see him in this positive light and realize what an unusual and beautiful person he was and how much he enriched our lives through his work and art.. When I look at his videos and songs and interviews and books, he was always the same loving and caring and humble gentle person, he talked the same way, in the same voice, in the same style , he was always himself.., yet, so many people said he was putting on an act, they thought he was lying about his skin disease and mocked him as an pretender for encouraging goodness in the society. The cruelty in the media toward him was unprecedented, and how Michael endured all those attacks is a small wonder.., His problems were numerous, complex, and multi-faceted, with no one to trust ( I heard that Michael was sued over 1,000 times ) with so much responsibilities and burdens, and really who else could have lived such a tremendously difficult life with such a grace, perseverance, gratitude and an open heart . How painful and stressful it must have been for him to lose the skin pigment and continue to lose the color to the point of unnatural whiteness, and being subjected to public ridicule and mockery of his face by the public who chose not to believe that he had vitiligo. Yet, he accepted this as a design by God, and in spite of his deep pain, he never complained loudly about his travails. He never attacked anyone, he only defended himself, and while the public saw his goodness and kindness as a sign of weakness, he steadfastly remained the same to the very end. He lived a life true to himself and to God, he gave his all to God and to the world and died a heart-broken lonely soul who was pretty much rejected, despised and dismissed by his own people, yet at the same time, he truly touched the hearts and souls of millions through his own pain and open heart that made his art truly authentic and alive. Who else could have done this but Michael, a true genius in a class by himself, and as such he had to live his life in his own way that made sense to him. What we call "weird" or "eccentric" is often relative to culture, economic status and philosophical differences. What we think normal in this country may be both weird and eccentric measured by other nationals, and personally, I think Michael was normal and prudent and smart in his decisions given his own particularly different life he was forced to live. I also think that much of his facial changes were due to his aging and skin color deterioration, and it is totally unfair to compare his face in his teen years to senior years. Michael saw his face , hair and skin condition in the naked truth and probably despaired and agonized in private, and if he wanted to improve his appearance to appear more normal and acceptable to the public, then who I am to judge him for trying so hard to look better. What I say to Michael is "Thank you, thank you, and THANK YOU !! for all the things you have done and all the things you were, I bow my head to you in my utmost respect and admiration for your strength, courage, perseverance, determination and most of all your unending love for humanity ". You were a true hero !!!!!

Apologies for that comment twice I had some trouble with the laptop.

Ah, yes, the despicable Mr. Gutierrez, from whom Michael won a $2.7 slander judgment that, of course, Gutierrez couldn't pay, so he filed bankrupt and fled to Mexico. Good riddance.

Here's a discussion board thread wherein a couple of music industry people who worked with Michael talk about their wonderful experiences with him.

SoCalGal, Victor G is (Gutierrez) totally dreadful. I have been on you tube periodically and some of the emails I have had back in reply have been so abusive the language that has been forwarded leaves a lot to be desired. I only ever suggest that people do some research because I disagree with them and some people cannot handle it. Thanks!

This article poignantly states the sad truth about Michael Jackson and society's treatment of its greatest stars. Thank you for taking the time to so eloquently lay out the truth. God bless you, and God bless Michael. Xx

I was reading a blog today and that person who wrote it asked couldn't we take Tom S, Diane D, Victor G, Martin B, the Chandlers, Arvizo's and numerous others that were mentioned on a boat trip out to the middle of the sea and then sink the boat in one fell swoop. Although I am a person who has never wished anything bad on anyone not even my worst enemy I could understand the frustration. Some of them just won't let things go even now. I don't understand people being so vile. It's very sad. Oh! well, we must just keep going and keep passing article's like Matts onto any doubters. Take care!

Jan, who is Victor G? Sharon Waxman is another perp. Disgusting.

I'm time-blocking 20-30 minutes per day to posting on numerous Michael Jackson YouTube videos. Try it => "Here's a beautifully insightful article about Michael. Google for "elites tv michael jackson wounded messenger."

We thank you from down here, Mr. Semino.

SoCalGal, when Michael entered the court house to hear the verdict his expression was that of a man with a broken soul. I can't forget the sadness in his eyes, not knowing if he'd be allowed to go back to his children. I admire him for many reasons and one of them is that he survived that nightmare.
On the stage he was a monster and yet seemed so fragile out of it.
The role of the media in society is out of track for a long time. It's all about money and it's a shame. I don't see a line in the horizon to revert this but I truly hope I'm wrong.
  • michaelbrazil
Sorry for my Brazilian English: Thank you very much. Mr. Semino.
I wonder how the likes of Bashirs and Murdochs can do so much harm and got away with it. This is not fair at all. I have passed your article to my friends and I know they'll do the same. Being the same age of Michael, I grow up singing his songs and never doubt for a moment he was innocent. I'm glad so many people are now being able to know his wonderful work.
  • mattsemino
Thanks Michael Brazil for sharing with Brazil!! I hope they enjoy reading this piece on MJ.

The social crime here is that, collectively, the media--even so called mainstream, not just tabloid--mangled Michael Jackson's image beyond repair. Some say he was complicit in that regard but, after all, how does one man defend against an onslaught of malicious negative reporting? In retrospect, I wish Michael had had someone like Matt Semino to help him manage/communicate his message. Obviously, too many people were tone deaf when Michael tried to communicate solely through his music. Out-tabloided, when Michael granted interviews to expand on his views, they were taken out of context or Michael trusted the wrong interviewer (Bashir the BS'r; Sawyer the Swindler). The angst I felt as I watched Michael's crucifixion unfold at his trial of course paled in comparison to his own. Maybe we should redefine murder, because murder by media is exactly what happened to Michael Jackson.

    Thanks for this article!

I've never been a fan and never read yellow press. But I started to study his music about a year ago as, unfortunately, you first need to learn to understand the words before you can understand the person behind them. What made me have a look after (honestly) ignoring him for so long? I now as an adult finally wanted to know the truth, not the media's fantasy stories and the only real source for information was in his songs. Magazine articles starting with "A source told us..." or interviews which can easily be cut to give answers a completely wrong context are no proper source. My own observations are summarized here, I couldn't have put this into words any better.

I wish I'd have had a chance to tell him "I want to understand but though I've had a close look I still need help."

I started to understand late, but better late than never!
  • C.S.
    VERY WELL EXPLAINED.

INFINITE KUDOS, MR. SEMINO. THESE ARE JUST THE IDEAS AND 'GUT FEELINGS' THAT MANY OF US 'FANS' HAVE THOUGHT AND FELT... THANK YOU FOR PUTTING INTO WORDS THESE TRUTHS ABOUT HIS INNATE HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS. THIS IS THE MAN WE SHALL REMEMBER THROUGHOUT TIME. WITH OR WITHOUT THE BLASPHEMED RIDICULE THAT BREEDS LIKE FEAR ALL AROUND US.

THOSE OF US WHO SEE THE TRUTH ARE NOT TOO DIFFERENT FROM THIS MAN WHO WE SPEAK OF. THOUGH NONE OF US HAVE MADE HER/HIS MESSAGE AS CLEAR AND GLOBAL AS THIS INDIVIDUAL.

FOR THOSE WHO FOCUS ON THE NEGATIVE, THOSE WITH A DARK AND OPPRESSIVE NATURE: YOU HAVE MUCH TO LEARN FROM SUCH A MESSENGER.

NO ONE CAN DESTROY THIS MAN! HIS SPIRIT LIVES FOREVER!
NO ONE CAN DESTROY HIS MESSAGE! HIS MESSAGE LIVES WITH US ON EARTH FOREVER!

SOME OF US WON'T BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH HIS MESSAGES- BUT MANY OF US- JUST LIKE YOU AND ME, KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO WITH THEM: START MAKING THE CHANGES OURSELVES JUST BY LOOKING AT OURSELVES AND DECIDING THAT WE ARE HERE TO MAKE THIS A BETTER PLACE.

MICHAEL SIMPLY WANTS US TO MAKE THIS A BETTER PLACE!
I KNOW I AM LISTENING, AND I THINK YOU ARE, TOO!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR WORDS AND HEARTFELT ARTICLE.
AND, THANKS TO ALL THE FANS FOR ALSO RECEIVING A PIECE OF HIS MESSAGE.

LET'S MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE!!!!!

Michael fell on stage and broke his nose in the '70'S, hence his nose is more narrow from surgery. His hair caught on fire early '80's, vitilago caused skin blotchiness, eventually forcing him to go lighter. By going lighter he was more susceptible to skin cancer. Therefore, he had to use heavy makeup and umbrellas outside. He contracted Lupus, which is an awful painful autoimmune disease. Skin problems occur with Lupus. Despite all these medical problems, he continued to act humble and polite to everyone including the press who just wanted to make a buck off of him. I hope some of these news people feel shame for their portrayal of him.
  • I was impressed by his humble nature since most celebrities aren't..I always knew he was a good person. I did read about the lupus and the vitilago. That must have been very painful and difficult to deal with. I remember him telling oprah about it. I think he tried to make the best of his hardships but like anyone else after a while I am sure all of it took a toll. I was happy to see that video of him rehearsing it shows that he was happy doing what he loved to do so I think he had some sense of happiness and contentment up until the last day. I don't pay attention to the press too much these days although there are a few good interviews and articles such as this one..I found this thru twitter..glad I did..

8/26/84 that was a magical day..I saw michael and his brothers perform in the victory tour buffalo, ny..I am happy to have that memory..there has never been a better concert since then for me but a few have came close but no one can match his performance and they will never duplicate it..he is the one and only king of pop..we will never forget that..RIP
  • One thing I have felt bad about about is the trial and the pics plastered all over magazines like people magazine which I used to subscribe to. I have always wondered why he changed his look so much. It made me sad to think that he did not like himself somehow..The question is always why? Alot of people wondered this as well..it never changed the way I viewed him as a good person..I just thought he lost his way. Recently before his death I heard one of his songs in a movie and I decided to look him up to see what was going on. To my surprise I found out he was going to tour and do an album. I was happy about this. Fast Forward a little later to 6/25/09..I was on the internet and to my shock I heard that he passed away. How utterly sad..for a few days I watched the media coverage..most of it was alright some of it was not. Too much gossip. Recently though I turned the tv back on and saw the MTV special which I enjoyed alot and I felt that it was worth the time. Like I said in my other post I have stopped watching most of the news programs. Not sure which ones I should watch besides mtv. I did appreciate the Spike Lee interview. If there can be more interviews like that I would be happy to watch the news again..Most of my time though is spent watching youtube videos and listening to the albums and downloading demos from thriller and other albums. I hope that there is more unreleased music to come bc I think michael would want us to hear all of his music and do some good in the world while we're at it..thanks

    So calGal
I apologize i have absolutely no PR skills at all...
Am i surprised that an entertainer has had such an impact?.... The answer would be yes if he were just an entertainer but he was so much more and still is. No, i'm not being a smart alec here.... this is merely the conclusion i have reached after going thru this process for the last 6 weeks. Know what I mean? Am i shocked that one person, no matter what his 'occupation' was has had such an impact? ABSOLUTELY! :-) But i'm so glad. I am so grateful that he has and so grateful that i have been affected. I even more grateful after reading this thread because i now know that he reached so many people.
Has anyone besides me noticed that since the 'release' of the Pepsi video the media has been somewhat kinder to Michael? It seemed to make a turning point for the negativity. yes there are still plenty of haters out there but I noticed a marked polar shift if you will. I'm grateful for that, as well.
Does anyone have any real idea if Michael was a born again Christian?
  • smart032000
Mike was a Christian. He GAVE UP on religions ( Baptist. Catholic, Methodist, Church of Christ, etc.) He did believe in faith in God. His take on "religion" is that the people in each religious group were judgemental of others who were NOT in their group. He said that everybody felt that their religion was RIGHT. And many, like the pharisees, lost the real purpose of being here, which was to immulate Jesus, to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. He said that many religious people are more concerned with the practices and politics of the church rather than sharing the love of Jesus to the lost and hurting people. He saw them as hypcrites. He believed that ones work demonstrated their faith in God, not just TALK. Mike said that prayer and faith was paramount in his life, and that he lived to please God. What impressed me more than anything is that MJ could have had any woman he wanted at any time, but he made it clear that he was not going to engage in any sexual activity until he was MARRIED. Wow! Now that's a real man that respects his God, himself, and women. What was particularly sad to me was the fact that Mike said when he was younger, he LOVED to attend church, but as he got more famous , it,too became impossible.
  • SoCalGal
There's been a lot of discussion online about Michael's spiritual commitment to a particular dogma but there doesn't seem to be anyone stepping forward who has said they have good reason to think he was this or that.
  • gutted
This is truly an astounding piece of writing.
  • mattsemino
Thank you all again for your wonderfully kind words.
  • SoCalGal
sugarone, is it possible that an entertainer, someone we have never met, could teach us such things as you described? Yes, it is! Here's the thing: today I read several rather useless tidbits on Google frontpage News and yet Matt's piece can't, for some silly technical reason, get an audience there. This is irritating and frustrating! Surely there's a way to drive millions and millions of people to Matt's article because, as you said, many (I know I do) feel the emotions you wrote about. Can we all put on our thinking caps and figure out a way to facilitate the shift in thinking that Matt described--sooner rather than later? Any PR pros out there?
  • sugarone
I cannot believe the truth and depth in this article. Matt.... you are a superstar! Thank you so very much! Your article says so much that i do not have the gift of words to express.
i have spent so much time the first month after Michael's passing in regret, utter and uncontrollable sadness and in defense of Michael to those who are not kind. I became concerned that I was obssessing over this, something I have never done before. I finally prayed that God would give me some peace over the situation, asked for forgiveness that I too had become confused during the last years of his life and did not follow his music or his life. I have learned a horrible lesson about myself. I will now always strive to never judge, never allow others opinions to influence me and to continue to help others. In the 90's, Michael and my son single handedly taught me about racism and how to break down those barriers. I am so eternally grateful that he had this kind of influence on me. I've loved his music since I was a child. I had stopped listening around the time of "Remember the time" and "Black or White". What a huge waste of time on my part but what a wonderful vault of new music for me to enjoy now. I'm ashamed I allowed my views to be changed from what they were up to the early 90's but I know God has forgiven me and I know that Michael would too if he were here. I cant believe i am admitting this on this board but it is time for me to come clean somewhere.
This thread has truly meant alot to me. The article is fantastic! The posts allow me to realize that I'm not the only one with this grief as well as realizing all the wonderful things Michael did and tried to do. I've spent hundreds of hours on you tube watching videos, interviews and anything i can find on him. I wish i could have known him personally. I have spent alot of time wondering, praying and hoping that someone showed him the true way to salvation and that he is in heaven. I know in my heart that the talent Michael had was a gift from God. Michael also always said this. I hope and pray that he is in heaven and at peace finally.
Shame on the media. Shame on those who tore him down. Revenge is not ours to take so I know God will take care of those persons responsible.
Matt, again, thank you so very much. You will NEVER know or realize what your article has done for me. I cried everyday since Michael died until this past week. Today I cried again, but it was good tears, tears of forgiveness as i realized that I'm not alone with my confused thoughts these past few years. Tears of joy that there are others that feel as i do. Tears that he is gone but his legacy will live forever. I know it will in my heart... and on my iPod! Thank you all so very much for your honesty and candor.... you truly have no idea what this thread has done for me.
    I do love you Michael....

MJ lived for gud work and his fans for his motivation. I just wish he is seeing all this and he just knows that the world which loved him for wat he was surpasses way beyond the unlucky few who could not see that he was divine soul who came on earth just to bind us together with his love. Love u MJ. God Bless u whereever u are and watever u r doing. U r the most loved and missed messenger and all ur problems are solved now. Just sing and dance to your heart's content and we will know :)
  • thank you for your article..I have posted this to my blog and I will also tweet it. I have stopped watching cnn and other various programs because of the very things you discuss in your article. I do not miss watching these programs. I find more it more valuable to honor michael jackson's memory by recalling the time I went to his concert in 1984 in Buffalo, NY at 13 years old, watching his videos, and viewing youtube videos and most importantly playing his music which I am doing right now.

I agree with many of the comments on this board. As someone who grew up in East Chicago, IN (hometown of Katherine Jackson, next to Gary) I have to say that i take special pride in the fact that someone of michael's stature could come from such humble beginnings, a two bedroom house in an industrial suburb. Its easy to overlook Gary and EC and write off the potential of those who live there. Even if he rarely returned home, Michael represented us well. thank you for this article, its one of the few that gives him the type of tribute he deserves.

World Peace Day is in November. Perhaps that would be a good date to keep in mind to work around regarding additional releases of Michael Jackson's music, art and messages.
  • Jan
I just heard that columbia should be getting the rights to the rehearsal footage so I feel it is better they release it rather than Sony. Matt, I still continue to pass your article around at every opportunity, it's too good not to. Regards to you all!

Columbia is the movie side of Sony so they'll still be making billions off of Michael's back.

Bella I agree with you except for the fact that I always enjoyed his music. I did alot of research on him and if people took the time they would understand him. I have to admit I didn't cry because he is never going to sing Thriller again I cried because of the man he was. He had the biggest heart and perhaps understood the meaning of life better than anyone. I only wish I had known this before because I owe him a thank you. It makes me cry but Michael will never be forgotten.

A brilliant masterpiece! This article was crafted with the skill and eloquence of a Shakespeare, the insight of a Socrates, the solid persusive arguments of a lawyer, along with a passion of a warrior.

I felt goose bumps all over. Thank you, thank you Mr. Matt Semino, for being the voice of truth! I'm literaly on my feet, in front of my screen, giving you a standing ovation.

    Michael's legacy lives on!

    Agree completely Leto7!

We created him, made him into what we wanted him to be, & then destroyed him for it.

Every move he made we were there to say "no Michael you can't be normal". "No Michael you can't leave your house." "No Michael you can't keep all of that money for yourself." Then, when he became what we call "wierd", we fed on it like it was all his fault.

Michael Jackson, whatever good or bad anyone thinks of him, was our creation! He is nothing if not a reflection of our warped, twisted society, and it's misplaced values. And to make it worse we, as a society, barely acknowledge the good that he did. Who is the real "wacko"?

    Dear Matt Semino,
this is the best, and excellent review essay i have read on Michael Jackson. I am in awe of your analysis, it has really spoken to my heart and to what my own feelings about Michael Jackson. I will file this away, one of the best. and thank you so much, some of needed to give us a more complex view of the man behind the mirror and my love and support for MJ is now renewed. Thank you.

    Dear Readers,

I want to thank you once again for taking the time to read my piece and provide your extremely thoughtful and respectful comments. It is greatly appreciated. I am amazed at the tremendous response that I have received from Michael Jackson fans around the world. From Bahrain to China and many, many other countries in between, I have been moved to tears by so many of your letters. It is because of you, the readers and your efforts in sharing this article with your friends, families and others who care about the principles that Michael stood for that we have been able to reach such a wide audience in such a short period of time. I can't thank you enough for that and I hope we can just continue with this wonderful, worldwide effort. As you may have noticed today in the news, the U.S. journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling who I mentioned in this article and who had been imprisoned by a repressive regime in North Korea have been pardoned for their alleged "crimes." I am confident that Michael Jackson would feel a small sense of relief to hear this news as he spoke out very clearly against this type of repression and restrictions on personal freedom. Hopefully his words and messages can help prevent these forms of injustice from continuing around the world where many basic rights are denied to citizens. Your efforts in spreading Michael's message are helping move us in this positive direction. Thank you so much for all of your phenomenal work!

    All the best,

    Matt Semino, Esq.

    Matt,
Thanks for the article. It's nice to read something positive for a change. So much dirt is said & written about MJ. The reasons for admiring him, the idea of continuing what he started with his messages & humanitarian efforts always get lost. I hope that he does "garner this same level of critical acclaim as an artist and most importantly, as a humanitarian."

Thank you very much for your article. I really agree with you. I hope everyone to know how remarkable person he was. Michael has a simply pure and innocent heart and soul. I think sometimes people do not try to believe there is this kind of human being. But Michael was. It is so sad still there are many people who couldn't see his true , beautiful soul.... I think your article will give people the chane to look at themselves and memorate Michael's beautiful minds. Thanks again!
  • roamy811
It is SO nice to see an article written about MJ that is tasteful and without negative sensationalism. Many of Michael's charities were never publicized, and I like that it did not take a disaster to happen before Michael would visit a hospital somewhere- he did it whenever he could AND also in times of need. And those things he did was directly from the heart. And this message was right for MJ's messages: of unconditional love and compassion for another human being. He gave much of himself to make another happy, live and love another day. I too believe MJ was highly misunderstood- but I also feel some peole were simply just not listening to what MJ WAS SAYING and all of it were things he has said all along. I often wonder if Bashir's documentary had never been shown of how MJ's life would have been today- or would it have just postponed the events he had to endure? I often wonder why Maury Povich's rebuttal was not more widely publicized- in fact, Mr. Povich uncovered a truth that was not told and Martin Bashir's perspective did MJ a great injustice...I have loved MJ for over 30 years and I have always believed in him. I thank you for your article on MJ and I KNOW MJ would appreciate this very much.
  • debarmelino
    Dear Matt,
Thank you so much for your well crafted and thought out article. You have expressed so much of what I have been feeling, only much more eloquently than I could have ever put it. In my grief, I have believed his death could have been prevented (if he didn't have the emotional pain of being dragged through the mud when all he wanted was to contribute on a massive level - which he did do anyway! - he might not ever have needed pain killers... I don't know how much was physical pain, but the devastation of being falsely accused had to have taken it's toll on him). I have been trying to find solace in researching everything I can find out about him, from his music and beautiful lyrics, to watching the interviews and reading reading reading, listening over and over to lyrics, to his words, If only, if only...He was unique, one of a kind, God loving creature and I love him fiercely. I am happy to know he has legions of believers. I have also been comforted by the knowledge that he did achieve so many of his dreams and goals, and truly loved what he was meant to do in this world. he had the means to create, the acknowledgements of millions, and I know that had to mean something to him, as he often said. There is talk of a Nobel Peace Prize given posthumously, and of a Resolution 600 passed for him. I think his value cannot be overestimated. Thank you again for your wonderful words, which I will gratefully pass along to many people.

    Hello debarmelino -
Thank you for your reply..I am comforted to hear that there are others who are pouring through Michael's interviews and work in order to work out grief. I am so impressed by MJ's body of work and his wonderful messages and his general character that I am mourning doubly now.
    thank you, Kathy
  • Dear Matt, I was beginning to despair of reading anything about MJ that was not going to sink into the morass of morbid obsessions that media attention of his life had sunk into. MJ was a sincere and deeply caring humanitarian and changed the landscape of our culture. Thank you for writing this at all, and thank you for writing it so beautifully.

i was born in 1992, so i wasn't fortunate to witnesss Michael at his largest. All i witnessed was the " freak era " that the media portrayed him to be and I believed it. I do feel like Mike was sent by God to warn us to change, but we failed. i myself made fun of him. I am very scared and I feel guilty. After he passed i did research, watched interviews and i got to know the real Mike. I saw how much pain he went through. I couldn't stop crying. I kept asking God for forgiveness and mercy. I don't know how one person can endure so much pain. Mike has taught me to do as much good as i can. He is a big influence in my life. I pray he is in a better place every night. I pray God will make me a better peron. RIP King Of Pop.
  • SoCalGal
christie, I, too, have learned a lot about judgment from the spectacle of the media's treatment of Michael. We see so clearly why one of the Ten Commandments is "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." Why? Because false witness kills just as surely as murder--only slower.

I have a sister who's a bit, shall we say, unconventional. If she was rich, she'd be labeled "eccentric," as Michael was, but she's not, so "weird" is the label usually applied. After all this came down about Michael, I told her that I understand better now the judgment she sometimes feels because she doesn't always conform to societal norms--whatever that means. So many judged Michael harshly when they didn't walk a single inch in his shoes. Unfortunately, many of these harsh judges were/are influential, such as Oprah, who hasn't said a single word in his defense after his death.

I also want to comment that I recognize I've posted a lot more to this blog than anyone, but I'm trying to balance that by re-posting Matt's piece on as many other blogs as I can--especially in response to the MJ Haters. I think it's important to keep presenting the other side of the story, especially since Matt has expressed it so beautifully already. Thank you again, Matt. I feel like those who love MJ owe it to him to speak up for him now. It's just not right what the tabloids did to him. For easy re-posting, the truncated link is http://tinyurl.com/ldurh9

I'm glad you are commenting regularly on this article. I enjoy reading your comments and your passionate defense of Michael since his death. I'm personally sorry that I didn't verbalize my defense of him as often as I should have while he was alive. I hope you continue to spread the word about Michael. I believe that we have been tested through Michael's existence, and we failed. Messengers don't always "look" as we imagine them, which is why we must have faith and listen carefully to their words and actions. Michael Jackson was an extraordinary force, and I have cried many times since his death. Being judgmental is extremely destructive.

Although I'm not a Christian, I am familiar with the following: "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."

    God bless.

Michael's fans have the opportunity to counter the destructive force of judgment by re-posting Matt's piece as often as possible. (Many hands make light work.) :-) Oh, when blogs/sites don't allow HTML characters, a search term can be used and Matt's piece will appear at the top of the search. I posted this note numerous times over the weekend on Michael's YouTube videos. [quote] Here's an eloquent article about Michael. No HTML code allowed here, so Google for "elites tv michael jackson wounded messenger." [quote]

Great idea about YouTube..another idea I had was to send the articles to representatives of the Jackson family members such as their agents, publicists and managers (Janet, LaToya and Jermaine come to mind)..I think all of that info can be found on IMDB. Just a thought of another way to spread the positive word about Michael, particularly to those closest to him.

Thank you for a sensible and low-key article. I myself have recently taken a new look at what Michael Jackson actually wrote and composed - often cooperating with others, according to himself, but he was the initiater - and found poetry as well as a humanitarian approach. I was stunned by Earth song when it came, yet saw it as a singularity. His looks and personality and life stood in the way of his body of work, like you are saying, but his vast audience kept loving him for the duration of the tempests.

Like you, I believe he will be seen as one of the great, and thanks to Inetrnet and Youtube we can still enjoy and admire him. I was astonished by my own grief at his death, and I am not the only one.
  • Kathy M
    Hi asto -

Thank you for commenting on this article about Michael Jackson. I am feeling astonished at the intensity of my grief at his death as well. I have never had this reaction to any other celebrity. Today is over a month since he left us, and I found myself sobbing this morning again. It doesn't happen every day, and the intensity is passing but my grief is affecting me on a daily basis. I know that he was not a personal friend, but I keep listening to his music with his universal messages of love, and I wish wish wish that he was still here with us. I am still stunned by Earth Song, and by Heal the World and Keep the Faith and, omg, by Black and White. I am stunned by the long version of Blck & White, but the emotional message in dance at the end...the passion and depth of his artistry was just not celebrated properly when he was with us.

We failed to uplift this messenger, and this I think is what hurts the most.
  • beleever
with all this knowledge aswe now know MJ went through his entire life, the suffering, lonliness, constantpapparzzi following your every move, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GET INTO SHOW BUSINESS!!! FOR GOD SAKE DON'T SEEK THIS ONLY TO REGRET IT AND HAVE A LIFE LIKE MJ. WE WE'RE NOT CREATED TO BE WORSHIPPED LIKE MJ BUT TO WORSHIP THE CREATOR ONLY. IT IS A TEST FOR ALL AND DRIVEN ONLY BY SATAN HIMSELF AS HE CHALLENGED GOD THAT MAN WAS NOT WORTHY OF HIS CREATION AND HE WILL FALL EASILY INTO THE HANDS OF IBLISS.
  • beleever
That's a great way to look at it too. Like a modern day messenger, he did have a crucial message in most of his songs which perhaps most people didn't want to hear. Racism, hunger, etc but he did have a unique way of sending it thru his singing and his hip hop beatboxing sound which I find so mezmerizing today. Also, I've read that he wasn't ever ready to leave this planet, he wanted to live forever and the way he went, was so like God to take him so silently and calmly like as if he were sleeping and he was unaware. In my religion, if your place is in hell, your soul doesn't want to leave your body and it fights violently to stay inside your shell, but if your place is in heaven your soul goes so calmly and eager. But we also need to remember that we are here for a reason. Not just to work or have fun, but to abide by Gods rules and not mans laws. There is a difference. Thank you for your message.
  • pusherswithdegrees
Well, this is a tricky situation. Michael was born into a showbizz family and had the GIFT. And like he said many times; the songs and music came through him not from him.
I guess GOD knows what's needed to touch the masses but are the masses ready to hear the message?
I think that's why God took him from us at this point in time. The whole planet's in a bad state and needed to be shocked in the right direction. Michael's death is certainly accomplishing this mission of Love for some of us.

That was a lovely article, but can i just say that michael jackson was not Jesus and some of these commenters should know that. But on the other hand he had a similer life to Jesus and he deserves to be remembered forever through, not just his music and dance, but also what he did for the world, he was a genuine angel, put on this earth to do the job of spreading the word that we need to look after this world, and was cruely taken away at such a young age. people often talk about life after death and that when you go up to heaven you sit at a table with your heroes and people that helped the earth, he will certianly be at mine, if i am let into heaven.

R.I.P Michael i hope your are finally at peace.
  • hollywood3001
I think most commentors know MJ was not Jesus but his story and fate share many similarities with Jesus...Any thoughts people? I think this is an interesting question/debate!
  • SoCalGal
I haven’t heard/read (m)any people compare MJ in terms of diety status to Jesus Christ. He would have had to perform bona fide miracles, such as walking on water, to warrant that comparison. I’ve read where he is referred to as Christ-LIKE—which all of us who call ourselves Christians should aspire to be. In many ways, he was Christ-like; for example, his generosity toward the poor and especially sick children is legendary. Not just money, either. He spent as much time visiting sick children as he did on stage performing. You don't have to search far on the Internet for many examples of this. Didn’t Jesus say, “Do as I do...and more.” Then, someone comes along and does just that and we get all bent out of shape by the comparison. He was, in fact, Christ-LIKE: longsuffering, persecuted, loving (to a fault!), generous (to a fault!) and certainly shared Christ's love of children and his fellow man. In addition, MJ took great pains to deflect comparison to Jesus except to say that he aspired to respond to life, as Jesus instructed, as a child would. In my opinion, it's adults' propensity to tear down the most Christ-LIKE among us that was Michael Jackson's greatest undoing.

That's wonderful, Bella. Can others think of ways to get Matt's article more widely distributed? For instance, the Huffington Post is among the Top 30 online destinations. Maybe we could all write to the gate-keepers there and suggest that Matt's piece be published. The email for news stories to be considered for the Huffington Post is scoop@huffingtonpost.com

Salon is another one. The email for submission suggestions is readermail@salon.com

BTW, here are the Top 10 online destinations. Does anyone know anyone at these destinations?

    Hi Matt -
I have re-read your essay and need to comment again. I have a degree in English Literature, an it is a very well written analysis of the contribution of major artist who accurately captured the issues, the zeitgeist of our times.
I was at a party on Saturday, and we were watching music videos. The long version of Black or White came on, and that wonderful piece of social commentary came on, where Michael was dancing out his frustration and anger over racism. People just had to start talking abt the child molestation charges, and alos talked abt how violent the scene was. I was so outraged. I said well what about the violence of the KKK, which still exists? What about how hard it was to get a black artist on MTV when Thriller came out? No one wanted to talk about it.
Matt, your essay is right on.
Another peice I really love is They Dont Really Care About Us...esp. in the wake of the fall of Wall Street after our government deregulation brought the country to its knees. It is a timely piece of social commentary no one wants to see.
    thanks again, Kathy
  • mattsemino
Kathy - Everything that you say is so true.
  • Anita625
I cried while reading this article. I thank God for your profound insight. God used Michael to minister to the masses. And your right, we missed the whole message. We just didn't get it. We were too focused on the superficial issues of life-like Michael's appearance and his whirlwind lifestyle. Michael was persecuted and crucified with out cause just like Jesus Christ. God used Michael's death as another 911 wakeup call to our hearts and conscience. We should feel embarrassed, ashamed and guilty for how inhumane we responded to that call.
  • mattsemino
    Dear Readers,

Beautiful words, a text written with so much respect that I cannot help but to feel deeply sad, but also hopeful. I feel safe now, knowing that there are more people out there who saw Michael Jacksons huge heart and love for the world. Everything that is being said in this article are thoughts I have had myself, and I do feel that his biggest legacy is the one of truly caring for the world... We should all learn from his tragic life and death, and start healing the world in any way we can.

Thank you for this article, it's best read I have had for a while.
  • Diane Dimond, Martin Bashir, TMZ, Joan River, and the endless stream of child molestation jokes made by numerous so-called celebrities.~~ When will you people learn? Not only was the target of the jokes (MJ) found ACQUITTED of all charges. The mere idea that pedophilia is a subject matter for a JOKE is disgusting and revolting, it also says a lot about the individual making the repugnant jokes.( IT IS ABSOLUTLY NOT A LAUGHING MATTER AT ANY TIME OR PLACE) This quite clearly says, to me, these people must find the humiliation, degradation, inhumane mistreatment and life-long damage of a child, physically mentally and emotionally to be appropriate and acceptable fodder for humor. Most simply put, look at the "man/woman in the mirror" " take a look at yourself and make a change"~~ it has to start with YOU!~~ ( HMM? wonder where that came from?) . I find this sentiment, much more thoughtful, tactful and contemplative than my sentiment ( thank you again MJ for bringing this idea creatively more eloquently than I could have done)-- which is:SHAME ON YOU!! and wash your filthy and warped senses of humor with some decency and and a huge bar of soap.--
Also, look at the world and life MJ lived with and grew up in ,and tell me some of his"eccentricities" are not totally understandably and most importantly, human ways to respond. The idea that most of us look at him (MJ) now that he is dead, as Jesus-like, is totally and utter ridiculus, since he is/was JUST a man, we all know this. But an insightful, caring, creatively artful message that was needed and continues to be needed to be given for all of us to contemplate and ponder. And then individually acted upon, we cannot do it alone~~"so stand up and make that change", One man, one moment at a time. So, in my analysis, let's all listen to the message from the artist and start without delay. ~~ART~~it is through the artist Heavenly Father chooses to reveal himself.~DS. Let's celebrate the messangers life, but remember that fully to the Father goes the Glory.
And finally, the way we choose to celebrate the life of this gifted and special messenger should , also, say something special~~ Instead of sand art, wax figures and self promoting manners, could we do something to say thank you for the message, thank you for the gifts of music, thank you for the entertainment and thank you for the life with a memorial bearing his name ...one that would commemorate, endure and live with Michael Jackson's name by standing "TOGETHER AS ONE" for the betterment, safety and welfare of all the children of this world by starting a charity for them. A fitting tribute to him and necessary one for the children. One that provides time, effort and money for the future we are saving.(" the saving of ourselves and our own lives"--he said that too) ~~~~Micheal Jackson's, August 29th, "TOGETHER AS ONE" children of the world legacy foundation~~~~ perhaps with a National Day. I believe this would have made Michael Jackson happy.
Please help this to become a reality the world needs something to unite in for the children and in it collective memory of MJ himself.
  • SoCalGal

If matt doesn't mind I'll send his article around the UK I have put it on wales online web page but thought I ought to get his pemission to pass it around any further. I have sent the triumph and tragedy article by the santa barbara independent and the newswithviews.com article by dean tong to many places. The NOTW and the sun tabloid press in the uk have had some awful stories in their papers about MJ and I have contacted columnists personally to protest and request that if they don't believe me because they think I am just a fan that they look at mary fischer article amongst other articles and read certain books, etc but I never get an email back even if it is just to argue with me or say that they still don't agree with me. I find it so ignorant!

Hi Jan - Thank you very much to you and all of the readers/commentors for your insightful and heartfelt responses to my piece on Michael Jackson. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to read and write. It is wonderful! As I mentioned in my response to SoCalGal above, as a writer, my goal is to touch as many people as possible with my words and ideas. I appreciate and of course give you permission to pass my piece around to other media sources, news outlets and interested people in the UK and beyond where possible. I welcome both positive and critical feedback from all of those around the world who take the time to read the article. I believe strongly that the most effective way to get people to understand what Michael Jackson meant to our society and culture is to simply spread the word. Thanks to you and many other supporters, we are all on the road to accomplishing this goal. Thank you once again for all of your continued efforts. It is greatly appreciated not only by me but as you know, by millions of MJ fans around the world.

    All the best,

    Matt Semino, Esq.
  • Anne Duchard
As much as I dislike what Martin Bashir did to Michael, I do not think MJ would want to see his fans petitioning to have Martin Bashir fired. MJ was very compassionate. Such petition is not consistent for what MJ stood for.
  • SoCalGal
Anne, let's put it this way: I wrote to ABC and informed them that so long as Martin Bashir is the host of Nightline, I shall watch no ABC programs whatsoever. They can do with that information what they wish. I don't think simply not watching ABC is inconsistent with who Michael was. After all, non-violent protest is what Ghandi and Martin Luther King--both of whom Michael admired--would have done.
  • pusherswithdegrees
Sony plans to release THIS IS IT on Halloween weekend. I think this in very bad taste as it will solidify MJ's image as a freak. It should be released on a 3 day weekend like any other blockbusters. Please send them emails and ask them to reconsider and ask them to read this article above.

Today I read in Rolling Stone magazine that MJ had plans for Halloween. Here's the quote:

On the last night of his life, Jackson arrived at the Staples Center for six hours of a full run-through. First he had a meeting with [AEG's Randy] Phillips, AEG president Tim Leiweke, his manaager [Frank] DiLeo and Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich. They were going over ideas for a Halloween special they were putting together: the network debut of "Ghosts," Jackson's short film, which would incorporate clips of a live performance of "Thriller" from London. Afterward, Jackson went into another room and spent about an hour going over the 3-D effects for the show. He ate dinner--chicken breast and broccoli. Then he went to his dressing room and came out for three hours of performance.

The closer was slated as "Earth Song," from HIStory, one of Jackson's favorites. An impassioned ballad about the state of the world, it ended with a repeated refrain asking about the victims of humanity's rampant and heedless development, from crying whales to ravaged forests. "What about death again?" Jackson sang at the ballad's conclusion. "Do we give a damn?"

Those who witnessed the performance--seasoned professionals who had worked with the best in the business--were awestruck. Standing before them was the Michael they all remembered, the artist who had grown from a child singer to forge a while new style of pop. When Jackson walked off the stage, he hugged DiLeo. "This is our time again," he told his manager. "It's time for us to take it back."

The rehearsal was over, but no one wanted to break the spell by leaving. "He was bioluminescent," recalls Ortega. "When he finished, we all stayed there, just messing around." Michael was ready. In only 19 more days, he would take the stage in London, and the world would know, once again, that the King of Pop was back.

Finally, as the performers started to drift away, Phillips walked Jackson to his car. Michael put his arms around the promoter. "Thank you for getting me this far," he told Phillips in that whisper of a voice. "I can take it from here. I know I can do this." ###

Perhaps this is the significance of a Halloween opening for Michael's rehearsal footage-turned-full feature film. We can only hope.

I couldn't agree more! The timing of the release is a travesty! We all should write and loudly protest to:

I would also like to see Matt Semino's lovely article receive wider exposure. I sent it to John Branca (MJ's attorney) and the Editor of The Los Angeles Times. Do others have more suggestions on how we can get Mr. Semino's article to appear more broadly on the Internet?
  • lenell
Send it to all the reputable news papers and media outlets. I think the skeptics & haters-Nancy Grace, Diane Dimond, Larry King, Diane Sawyer, Bill O'riley, Oprah-just to name a few need to read this article.

This is the first article I read so far since Michael Jackson death that I find reflecting the absolute thruth about him. I am a french citizen and I was born few days after Michael Jackson in 1958. On his music, I danced the most beautiful nights of my youth. Over the years, I felt how concerned he was about the planet and the ways human kind has treated it. It feels good to see that there are people who feel the way I feel about Michael Jackson's life. I actually miss him much. Merci for this article!

To Matt, I found upsetting that martin bashir was able to edit his programme in the way he did and yet at the trial in 2005 when tom mesereau asked him questions he hid behind his ABC lawyer and the California Shield Law. So he didn't have to answer anything at all. I am so glad that Michael's own people filmed the whole thing aswell but how can someone be on the stand and be able to dodge all these questions. In the UK we have a number of laws that are dreadful aswell. Is the California Shield Law still in use exactly in the same way today? What are your views on this law?

socalgal, why the sarcasm? on both, I don't get it. Then again I will give you the benefit of the doubt, perhaps it is the way I have interpreted it. I have heard the Oxford speeches he spoke very well. Regards to you all!
  • SoCalGal
Jan wrote: "...perhaps it is the way I have interpreted it."

    Yes, it is.

To the board: Another way that Michael extended himself to his fans was to acknowledge--even participate in--his female fans' adoration of him. Here, in every concert where he sang a ballad, security plucked a female from the audience and he danced with her. Notice how he doesn't shrink from her physicality. He caressed her as he would someone he knew intimately and then let go of her in the most respectful way. I doubt there has ever been another entertainer who so fully gave of himself in a physical way (albeit in a controlled environment). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLjZgsIHUJk

Matt, thank you so much for that wonderful article! I am so glad to read an article so tastefully done, one that dosen't dwell only on the negatives of such a wonderful and caring person. I too am learning a lot about the life of Michael Jackson and all the awesome things he has done. He surely touched a lot of people hearts along his short life! It's too bad that some people only want to comment on the negatives! I will forever be impacted by this kind man and the music and happiness he brought to millions of fans! I will forever be a fan!

Thank you for your words, they speak the truth...
But isn't there any way we can change this? Make the media stop spreading all those rumours?
Make the media show all the good things he's done?
I always defended him wherever there was a discussion about him though people would call me crazy but why isn't there a way to make people see the truth?
It's just so sad ....we all need to see what's going on in the world and what needs to be done and he wanted to show us but nobody could listen behind those walls made out of lies.....and they are still alive.

Thank you! This is a beautiful article, and it reflects the way I feel about Michael Jackson. I hope that the people who feel the same way I do realize that his death has brought us a HUGE opportunity to examine ourselves, change our lives, and do a lot of good in the world. Michael Jackson was one of the most beautiful, kind, loving human beings ever to grace the planet. May he rest in peace and be remembered in love.
  • Bravo! This is the most intelligent, open-minded, and well-thought out article I've read about Michael Jackson.
  • cheriebee123
I am so glad you wrote this on Michael. If you saw my Twitter days after Michael passed you could see the hostility in my comments with regards to the media and how they truly killed Michael. Michael was a part of our family through marriage for last 20 years, but I was a true fan way before that happened. This man as you called the wounded messenger, depending on your religious beliefs, could be compared to the story of Jesus, and how every body loved him and believed in him until one person (The media) says something about him being ,out of the ordinary, and they crucified him. Michael was so pure and innocent and no one else reflects that of themselves in the mirror and cannot walk the path of unselfishness and the humanity Michael possessed. I find myself defending Michael on a daily basis and it's exhausting, I wish everyone could read, what you wrote as well as, these Kids that accused Michael of the worst thing imaginable to Michael which was to Hurt a child in any way. They need to come forward and admit they lied. I could write a book on your page but won't do it. I am so happy for your words and the eloquent way you wrote them. I would love to meet you sometime if you are ever in the L.A area. I would love to share our families experiences and the way my son described Michael when he was blessed enough to spend Christmas at Neverland !
  • Dear Readers,

Mr. Semino, Thank you very much for such a great article. You have been speaking out exactly what I thought. Like many others, I did not know MJ when he's alive, but now I become addicted to him after watching a lot of video clips on youtube, after reading his books, books by others, and reading two sides story of the trials. I now believe MJ is a GREAT person, he has a very beautiful soul. The media itself is a monster and just has no guts to admit it, and tries hard to distort MJ's image to fool the whole world. They will never succeed.

Socagal, I am well aware of his many awards etc, I have seen him twice in concert myself. I don't need to google anything. There is a difference between a genuine fan who expresses appreciation and sections of the media who were trying to pin or invent things about him that were not true. Diane dimond, tom sneddon, Victor G, hounded the guy the last sixteen years of his life. Martin Bashir was the louse who stirred up the pot once again with his badly edited programme in the UK. Especially, after the trial in 2005 there were many people who I suspect kept at a distance from him, who since he has died have said how marvellous he was but where were they when he needed them most of all? If he had been a friend of mine I would have been there for him.
My brother introduced me to his music when I was 11 over 30 years ago and I have loved him ever since. I never doubted his innocence. The world is a poorer place without him.

How lucky are you!! My comment about his awards was meant for the board in general, of course. For those who haven't heard it, here's an insightful speech he made in Oxford in 2001. (Click the succeeding YouTube links for parts 2-4.) http://tinyurl.com/njg344

There were so much media personnel that portrayed MJ so negatively...and all because it made so much more money and publicity to do it that way....Nancy Grace, Diane Dimond and Martin Bashir lead the way, even Diane Sawyer has lost my respect. Never again will I believe anything that comes out of their greedy mouths. One of these days, hopefully soon, they will realize how big a part they played in hurting such a kind and gentle soul. God help them when they do.

On the flip side of that coin I am now a big fan (again) of Geraldo Rivera (who was a vocal advocate and defender of MJ), Oprah Winfrey and a few others.
  • lenell
Oprah, please, she is on my s..t list. She brought people on her show(chris rock, jon stewart)during Michael's 2005 trail and made fun of him. I will never excuse her for that. She needs to read Matt's analysis of Micheal and she should have him along with Messareau, Aphrodite Jones, Geraldine Hughes....just to name a few who have researched and knew the on her show. The MEDIA needs to be stoned by the public.

    Now there.... I said it.

  • It's late - but we will take it! Thank you so much for writing thoughtfully, eloquently and accurately. Michael was "weird" alright, but he was not a child molester. The guy didn't have a single mean cell or bone in his body! I say weird because no one really understood him - and when we don't understand, we label. The labels usually are negative and nasty. His fans loved him unconditionally—just as he was; but I doubt that even we fully understood the enigma that he was. It gives us (his fans) lots of comfort to know that he died knowing his children loved and adored him and his fans loved and adored him. He took this love to the grave with him. Some people are brought into this world with a purpose. Mandela had his. MLK had his. Jesus Christ had his. Every single one of them paid a huge price to fulfill their destiny. Michael is no different (maybe I should say was no different)? Michael was a very important human being. I miss him every day despite him being always in my heart!
  • corsairmoran
Michael Jackson -- a true legend who truly believed in the healing power of music and art. An artiste, an entertainer, a performer above and beyond anyone the world has ever known. A man who crossed borders, broke boundaries, destroyed language barriers. The only western musician not confined to the English-speaking world.

But above all, a true humanitarian. A man who fought against many prejudices, and fought for his beliefs all his life, and won all his fights.

A man who believed in LOVE, PEACE, HOPE and HUMANITY.

A man who was never afraid to be himself. The only humble and real-at-heart celebrity.

You will be missed, and never matched.

What a strange world we live in! When a man believes in love, the world puts on its skeptical mask to denounce him. When Michael Jackson believed he could spread a message with his music, Jarvis Cocker couldn't fathom it. It was beyond his comprehension. When half-men like Jarvis Cocker and Martin Bashir air their ugly opinions, the world embraces it, out of its own skepticism. May God forgive us for the wave after wave of wrongdoing we have unleashed. Those who couldn't understand Michael Jackson will never understand love. To them "love = sex". Its a shame what the world has come to.

    Rest in peace my brother.
  • SoCalGal
Don't forget Diane Dimond, who stalked Michael for over a decade.
  • 20090625
Thank you so much Matt for putting into words what so many of us are feeling right now- not only the pain of losing Him but also the pain of watching (again) as his message to the World goes ignored in favor of tabloid trash.

    God bless you, man.
  • whenwillitend
Martin Bashir came out the other day and said that Michael was innocent, and he never did anything to the children. But this fucked up son of a bitch comes out when Michael is dead? That article was the most beautiful thing i've read regarding to Michael Jackson. He was so misunderstood because instead of taking time to know him, people wasted their time judging him. Like in his song Childhood he says "before you judge me, try hard to love me" and thats what i did. Thank you so much for writing this article. It;s so loving and pure, and Michael would've appreciated this so much.
  • hristina
Thank you for the kind words and for voicing the thruth. RIP MJ!
  • Kathy M
  • I know!! I wish someone spits at him every where he goes! I think Martin Bashir is a huge contributor to MJ's early death. The guy lied and lied and lied and lied. For what? Money? I hate vermins like Bashir.

Dear Matt -- Thank you so much for putting my thoughts into words. I wasn't a Michael Jackson fan before, but after his death I have studied lots about his music and life. What you wrote is exactly what was in my mind, though it is bringing more tears... Leave his music aside, as a great human being, what has he done to deserve this?

I have been crying for a man, a man with the kindest heart - Michael Jackson who left us in such a sad goodbye. I wish he could return so that we could have a chance to show him how much he is loved by us all.

Finally a well written article that the journalists of today can't seem to create. The journalists of today have lost what it is to be a writer - some one who searches and digs not for the superficial or what will sell papers, but for the actual truth! Matt Semino thank you for this beautifully written piece on a man who deserved so much more than the hurtful articles that he received.
  • judithd
Thank you so much for this article, it is all so true. My heart has been breaking for the last month fo all that poor Michael had to endure. I truly hope and pray that in life he knew Jesus as his Saviour and that he is with Him now for eternity. No more pain Michael. God bless you.

Thank you so much for this! You have articulated what so many of us are feeling. It is my fervent hope that someone in the media will now take up the task of speaking the truth about Michael. I, too, have learned more about Michael Jackson since his death, and I'm astounded at the power of the media to submerge any fact that does not support the "preferred" story.
  • qbee
Thank you for speaking out and bringing the truth to light
Michael was one of the the most gracious, generous, loving men to ever grace our planet_ It is very disturbing that our society is so brainwashed and obsessed with media gossip and speculation they never cared to look further and understand Michael Jackson and his profound messages and humanitarian efforts to better our world.
His death is a great loss _ Those who took the time to know and understand him deeply loved him. Those who didnt are confused as to why and still revel in the media assult against him. Its very sad that Michael could never get the recognition or respect he deserved from the media and general public _His fans were more than willing to over compensate and lift him up to make up for it _and the media and world called us freaks *weeping*
  • Kathy M
    Hi Matt -

Great analysis of how Michael Jackson has done for our world. Thank you for putting into words what I have been feeling all along. Yes, he was a person with epic influence, his body of work has the grandeur of a Greek tragedy, but played on a global scale,. unlike anything or anyone who has come before.

I believe he was created in our time right now, by our collective energy, to bring us messages of peace and love, but as you said, we destroyed him as we do not like to look at the reflection in the mirror, and make those changes. He brought our dark side to the light so many times and so clearly, of course we destroyed him.

thank you for this, and I hope his family reads this, and takes comfort in your thoughts. You have finally articulated what many people are feeling, as I feel are all culpable in the death of so eloquent a messenger and so ardent a humanitarian.
  • cristina_g
Oh god..!Thank you for putting my feelings on paper. No one till now could express what's actually happening like you did.
    THANK YOU
  • jan
Thank you for this it is such a shame that people did not appreciate him when he was alive and that the same section of the media continually tried to pin the title of a child abuser onto him when he was clearly innocent. He did so much for mankind yet was ridiculed for it. He has left a gaping big hole in the world of music and dance but more importantly a gaping hole as a decent human being and loving father. Best Wishes to you from Wales, UK!
  • SoCalGal
Jan, millions and millions and millions of people appreciated MJ monstrously while he lived. He won more awards than any artist who ever lived (Google for it). Just watch the footage of the many live concerts available on YouTube to see that, all over the world, a virtual sea of people cheered him wherever he went. The fans are why he toured. See => http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nsswRGi5i0

It was the heinous and despicable nature of the charges against him that were more than any innocent human being could bear. He was a strong person, but I wish he had been STRONG ENOUGH to clean up the mess that 70 sheriffs and deputies left at Neverland when they raided it. If only he could have just returned his home to its tidy and pristine condition and continued living there with his family. But, no, the wretched media simply would not leave him alone. They and they alone are to blame for the destruction of one of the entertainment world's finest artists. If I could place a curse on the egregious players--TMZ and Martin Bashir, for example--I would.
  • Kathy M
    Hello SoCalGal -
I agree with you, especially regarding Martin Bashir and TMZ...I think I will find MB on the Internet and tell him how I feel. As I embrace the values or love and non-violence, that Michael portrayed, I do not condone violence, but I will bet you that MB is probably afraid of the backlash against him right now.

I also wanted to mention that isn't it fitting that MJ was named after Michael the Archangel, the one who is the protector of the innocent.
  • hollywood3001
SoCalGal - I could not have said it better myself. You are right on!!
  • nycesq
I agree completely with the placing of the blame on the media (especially Martin Bashir, and I would place a hex on him too), but could MJ have returned to Neverland after it had been so sullied by the sheriffs and deputies, and the unfounded and baseless accusations, made by an unscrupulous and greedy family? Perhaps he was ready to do so, after a few years of wandering, but we'll never know.

I've recently revisited his videos, and I'm extremely saddened by the enormous loss the world has suffered because of Michael Jackson's death. I miss him.
  • Linda
Thank you for a very balanced perspective of how we as a society put our stars on a pedestal, and then with the help of media spin, knock them to the ground.
Most people don't look behind the current news report and foolishly believe the press is *always* truthful. Many careers were made on the ruination and blood of Michael Jackson long before he actually died.
I am not a religious person, but I do recall "...how you treat the least of me is how you are treating Me". Michael was not the least of us, but suffered on a global scale that matched his talent and his appeal.
He was crucified for being different...but all truly great and lasting messingers are.

Thank you so much for this article, well-written and informative about MJ.
  • leto7
Great article. Thank you very much.
It is so difficult for us people to mistake somebody's innocence for the hidden bad intentions. We get used to be skeptics and we are looking at other people's through our own mistakes.
Talented person was wasted. We enjoyed his art, we were amused, we were entertained, we could not understand it - so we had to take him apart to figure out why is he so different and so attractive to the public. He did not survive this kind of treatment. And we still do not have our answers. We are missing the most important thing - that he was one of us. We created him, we got influenced by him and we destroyed him. We lost the part of ourselves. And time will show if we are able to learn anything from that story.
  • hollywood3001
leto7, you hit the nail right on the head with that comment. Kudos to you!!! You really get it.
  • Controversal
Very well written. But there is more to be uncovered. Hopefully, since it is to affect so many cities and people in all walks of life; it won't be broomed under the table and covered with such a thick rug it'll be hard to uncover. Isn't there anyone in Hollywood that grows old with grace; instead of seeking plastic surgery, botox and drugs. I knew TV wasn't real. I new all of it was marketing and brain washing. But I was not aware there was so much back stabbing and jealousy.
  • SoCalGal
MJ made a BRILLIANT selection of Co-Executor of his Will in the person of John Branca, whom MJ re-hired only weeks before his death. MJ was best man at Branca's wedding (in addition to several others; MJ was a popular best man). I have no doubt that Branca will brilliantly guide the fortunes of MJ's estate so as to continue MJ's legacy as a humanitarian. I actually wrote a note of appreciation to Branca and sent it to his fax number (310-553-7068). (In my opinion, when people do the right thing, as Branca did and will continue to do, they deserve to be acknowledged.) Google for "John Branca" to read about the excellent guidance he has given MJ for many years. http://www.johnbranca.com/news.html
  • nycesq
An amazingly well-written article that focuses on Michael Jackson's humanitarian efforts. I read it with great joy! I too believe that the future will be much kinder to him (and show him the respect and the admiration and the love that he deserved and sought). Like others, I am grateful that you wrote this beautiful article.
  • Inesling
WOW! very well written, I agree with every single word you wrote Mr. Semino and I truly believe that the last phrase of your essay will come true, for history is filled with stories like MJ's. May his spirit rest in peace cause it seems that his body will still suffer some more at the hands of lesser beings, hungry for money.
  • Beth
For this written acknowledgment of Michael Jackson I am forever grateful. I have not read one article that has touched my heart and soul like this. I too cried reading and feeling every word. If only the media could have focused more on his humanitarian contributions rather than the negative profound ways they made him look less than human it could have made a difference. One thing if for sure, Michael Jackson did make a difference in this world and to try to do it on his own was too overwhelming. That burden he carried was crushing. His soul is now at peace and no other will compare. Thank you for this.
  • NNYC
What a wonderfull written article. I have learned so much about Michael the Humanitarian in the last 30 days and I have felt that the weight of the world was on his shoulders. Each of his songs tell a story, and in the song Cry he says that in the chorus "I can't do it by myself". This world laughed and ridiculed him. No matter how hard he tried. I felt that Michael was the vessel that God sent with a message. He endured a lot. When you think about it, publicly he rarely complained. He kept it bottled up. How lonely he must have been.
Thank you for writing this.. it speaks volumes and really does shed light on his plight here on earth and what he tried to accomplish.
  • I lost the URL but there is a YouTube video that shows MJ's facial transformation. And after all the changes (from 8 years of age to 50), the author provides a caption "if this is what was going on outside, what was going on inside?". I think we as human beings failed Michael but I take solace knowing that even Jesus Christ was stoned and ridiculed. I am really beginning to think of MJ as the JC of our era. Through his music, he bonded so many of us and despite challenges he continued his work - because he knew, his work would live on. I think I am going to start calling myself MJ disciple instead of fan! Maybe people can start calling me a freak and a whacko - don't care!
  • hollywood3001
I know, I cried reading this article as well. Every fan as well as critic should read this to fully understand the good Michael Jackson did for society and the entire world. I have sent this article to everyone I know so they can see the truth not what sensational stories the media presents just to sell ads.
  • claudiaalvarado
I couldn't stop crying. It is not fair what happened to Michael. Some people from the media are evil.
  • SoCalGal
Matt, your poignant essay made me weep; especially, "With all of his power, wealth and fame, he now lies before us like a bird crushed after being pelted repeatedly by outsized stones." Thank you for writing it as you memorialized my heart's expression. Michael was too good for this world. May God rest his soul and cherish his children.
  • sandy54
Finally, an article that brings justice to our beloved MJ's memory. Thank you so much!
  • baphi
I've cried so hard and had difficulty reading this article,at last the truth has been written about Michael Jackson and it hurt so much understanding what Jesus had meant,"you will be persecuted", somehow MJ had lived a life like Jesus at some point.I believe that he is the modern day messenger, proclaiming love all over the world for thats the world really need and he proclaim it not only by words but also in deed ,instead he was rediculed and stoned.Oh he doesn't deserve the world so he was taken out of it and he deserve a rest.
  • I TOTALY agree. The only reason Mike opened Neverland Ranch is because of his love for animals and because he NEVER got to experience what it was like going to the movies or TO AN AMUSEMENT PARK!!! ...he liked those things (like anybody else) ...and had the money ....so he built his own. But because he is "MICHAEL JACKSON" he HAS TO be "weird" or a "freak" for it?!?!?!? SMH. THAT IS SOOO SAD!!!! And to not be selfish ....HE SHARED IT!!!! with BURNED AND DISABLED KIDS!!! People should TRULY BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!!!!

I truly believe that God placed Michael here and gave him to us, because look at all of the love that he tried to give to the ENTIRE world and wanted to help children. And that is all he ever wanted to do was to help people through his music and his talent that he got from God. But yet they dogged him and dragged him for sooo long. That is so ironic -but not really because they speak about that in the Bible. And look at the way they did Jesus. Michael was an Angel and a test from God ...AND PEOPLE FAILED.
  • Ivannia
Being a Christian, I am very careful about calling anybody "a messenger". Because even though I do believe in God, I was born in a cynical world that questions everything, so I am naturally suspicious when it comes to people who say that they have "a mission" to help the world.

With Michael Jackson though... I also believe he was one of God's messengers. A man with so much talent whom God let suffer, a man that endured so much pain and ridicule. But, despite this, he gave the world so much that his legacy will echo for many generations to come... Because no matter how much we stepped on him, he still loved us. So yes, in many ways Michael Jacksons life and death reminds me alot of Jesus himself - a gifted child who didn't want any of it all, that later became a man who tried to spread his message and who at the end of his life was killed by the ignorance and greed of the humankind. He had to die for us to realise that the world is not in a good shape: Michael Jackson's death is a wake-up call... and with him dead, I believe God is telling us to speed things up or things will only get uglier.
  • catzpaw
I agree completely, as a Christian myself, we need to be careful who we call a messenger. But with Michael, it is so different. He was and always will be a messenger from God. He sacrificed his own life for the sake of others to make a better world. It reminds me of Jesus. Jesus was reviled and then ultimately betrayed and crusified. Michael's life and then death are very similar.

Hopefully people will wake up and not be so quick to judge a man just because he was different. It is those diffferences that made him special. Michael in his own amazing way did change the world for the better. It is a slow process, but one the rest of the world needs to continue.
  • I TOTALY agree. • cwansley
I totally agree with you. Some people get so freaked when you compare Michael's life with that of Jesus. I'm a Christian and totally understand there worries. However, when you look at his life he lived more like Jesus asked than most, and paid the price for it. The world he loved rejected him in so many ways. He always gave honor to God and showed unbiased love to all people of the world. I'm also african-american and can't help but feel sadness for the way many of his own race discredited him. He is an inspiration to those of us envolved in charity work.
