More on Horizon and Silk

From Shelley Rogers:

Thanks for this message, Mark.

Horizon is also now marketing “natural” milk, which means they’ve taken half of their formerly certified organic cows out of organic production, and are using them for “natural” milk–which allows them to use antibiotics, and keep the cows confined with no assurance of pasture. And people will buy that product, because they see the brand as “organic.”

And Silk soymilk is not coming from organic soybeans anymore–so “boo” to Dean Foods. I also doubt that they’ll reduce their prices for these products, even though they’re lowering their input costs (not to mention greatly reducing their support for organic agriculture).
