Poor Roman Polanski. All he did was drug and rape a 13 year old girl and then spend the next three decades hiding from the law in Europe! Why should he have to stay at this resort in Gstaad, Switzerland with an electronic ankle bracelet on? That seems so unfair! And his whole family had to go with him too! What a horrible, horrible experience for the entire Polanski family.

OK, I’ll lay off the sarcasm sauce and try and get real for two: Roman Polanski is doing his jail time in this gorgeous, exclusive resort in Gstaad that absolutely anyone in their right mind would kill to go to. For an average person, it would probably seem like the experience of a lifetime to spend several months inside of an exclusive, insanely expensive resort, lazing around, watching TV, working on whatever project they’d like and spending time with family. But for superstar filmmaker Roman Polanski? This is his idea of jail. This is where he chose to spend his court-ordered house arrest.

How is does this punishment fit the crime? How was this location approved by the courts? Should he not spend the time at his own home, at least? The entire scandal has been so much in the abuser’s favor that it appalls me. His family, on the other hand, looks about as miserable and embarrassed as you’d expect them to be.
