WASHINGTON, April 21, 2011 – Army reservist Amy McLaughlin had a lot to handle over the course of one year. She and her husband separated, she had to move her family across country, and her son was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder.

Fortunately, she said, her children have one of the traits so common among military kids: resilience.
