Everyone wants to avoid a lockout
NBA commissioner David Stern has insisted that both parties are doing all they can to avoid a lockout as the owners continue to insist on a new hard salary cap.
However, the players don’t agree and the debate over the new salary cap on the collective bargaining as the June 30th deadline approaches rapidly.
Stern has proposed a new ‘flexi cap’ which would allow the teams to target a uniform limit to the spending but still let them exceed to an acceptable level. However, the player’s still argue this is hard-cap as eventually the team’s spending would be cut once they hit a certain amount. Despite the side’s being loggerheads, they both concede that these latest developments are a breakthrough but they’re still a long way from reaching a final decision.
