Family Matters Blog: The First Step is the Hardest

American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, June 2, 2011 – Air Force Tech Sgt. Terri L. Kaas had a baby, took on a new career field, moved to a new duty station, and dealt with her husband’s deployment — all within a year’s time. Although she attempted to “do it all,” the stress took its toll and she battled with depression.

But with a fellow airman’s help and support, Kaas found the strength she needed to seek mental-health care. “For someone who truly needs help,” she wrote in a commentary posted on Air Force News, “the first step to wellness is the hardest step there is.” You can read more about Kaas’ journey to wellness here.
