Penn State Tragedy

Everyone is writing and talking about the Penn State sex abuse scandal and I am putting my thoughts in, for what it’s worth.  This is a tragedy for all concerned.  No one comes out looking good in this story.  It’s already been tried in the media and court of public opinion. 

I say, put the case on trial and let’s hear the facts.  And, the facts are slowly slipping out.  If what I am reading is true, this is an ugly story.  It starts with a shuddering, violent act on an innocent child.  And, in trying to contain this act, it percolates and boils over, 9 years later.  No one wants to talk about sexual abuse.  Like, if you don’t talk about it, it hasn’t happened. 

But the facts need to come out.  We need to see whether a crime has been committed.  A witness observed a crime, and testimony has been taken.  There needs to be a judicial process.  Hand-wringing isn’t going to change the facts…of what has happened.  How many boys were assaulted and in what time periods?  Why did this situation remain hidden for so long?
