Bio:
Irene A. Masiello, is a New York City-based magazine columnist writing on various topics, particularly, spiritual development, self-help and personal empowerment.
In 1997, she formed a group called the Starlight Network. It fostered community awareness in many arenas of wellness and consciousness expansion. Named in honor of her brother, Martin’s heroic effort in Vietnam, and, subsequent award of the Bronze Star (see: www.putGODbackinAmerica.com for more information), Starlight fulfilled a need in the community for responsible education about alternative health adjuncts and spiritual responsibility.
Members of Starlight united and met monthly under a philosophy best summarized by Margaret Mead’s quote, “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” That spirit was the fundamental building block of this book. Through a collaborative effort and a commitment made by many to serve the humanity, Paradise Costs—A Victim’s Daughter Fights Back Against Elder Abuse became a reality.
Ms. Masiello credits the City University of New York (CUNY) system, the largest and most diverse academic community in the world, with nurturing her creativity and inspiring her to recognize and address human needs.
Irene is a certified: Holistic Counselor, Adult Educator and Stress Management Consultant. And as a result of the experience described in this book, she is now an elder advocate and a member of the Elder Justice Coalition. She will continue to raise consciousness about human rights issues and elder abuse, neglect and exploitation by working with individuals and agencies. Her goal is to assist in passage, amendment and enforcement of federal laws geared to protecting elderly and all vulnerable citizens.
In memory of her late father, Mario M. Masiello, a victim of elder abuse and exploitation, a portion of her proceeds generated from the sale of this book will be donated to a non-profit elder advocacy group.
